The Stanley Cup odds from our best NHL betting sites fluctuate significantly with every game played. Round 2 is well underway, and the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars are jockeying at the top of the oddsboard.

As the second round of the NHL playoffs presses on as we face down more elimination games, we don't have a consensus favorite at our best sports betting sites.

The Dallas Stars hold a 3-2 edge over the Colorado Avalanche but failed to eliminate the Avs in their first attempt on Wednesday night. The Florida Panthers remain in the co-favorite position but failed to put away the Boston Bruins in Game 5 on Tuesday.

The Carolina Hurricanes long held the favorite role but are on the brink of elimination after losing three straight to the New York Rangers. Carolina has staved off elimination twice to cut the series to 3-2 but still has no room for error in its quest to reach the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Edmonton Oilers were the favorites at some of the best sports betting apps heading into the second round. They've slipped slightly with two losses to the Vancouver Canucks, but with the series squared up 2-2, the Oilers find themselves near the top of the oddsboard again.

We're breaking down the latest Stanley Cup odds below.

2024 Stanley Cup favorites

Panthers (+290 via FanDuel)

The Panthers are squarely in control of their second-round series against the Bruins after taking a controversy-filled Game 4 by a 3-2 to sweep two games in Boston. The victory gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead in the series and had them firmly in the driver's seat to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Florida failed to knock off the Bruins at home in Game 5, falling 2-1 as the series shifts back to Boston on Friday. The Bruins have never rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to advance, so the Panthers are still likely to get out of the series.

Stars (+300 via BetMGM)

The Stars have been all over the oddsboard since the postseason began. They opened the postseason at +900, quickly found themselves down 2-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights and plummeted, however, Dallas rallied on the road and turned the tides on the series.

Dallas plummeted again to start the second round, dropping their opener to the Avalanche. They surged to the top of the oddsboard heading into Wednesday's game with the Avs, but a disastrous third period saw them fall 5-2 as Colorado staved off elimination.

Rangers (+525 via bet365)

The Rangers had vaulted to the top of the oddsboard by opening the second round with three straight victories over the Hurricanes. New York is still in the driver's seat to advance to the Eastern Conference Final by playing a physical game and an adept offense, but it's missed back-to-back chances to knock off the Hurricanes as the series heads to Game 6.

How to read Stanley Cup odds

Stanley Cup odds reflect the probability of each NHL team winning the championship and are typically presented in American odds format (+XXX). Lower odds signify favoritism, while higher odds indicate underdog status.

A team with +750 odds to win the Stanley Cup is given an 11.76% implied probability of doing so with a $10 bet returning a $75 profit with a victory. A team with +1500 odds would have higher or longer odds, and a lower implied probability of 6.25%, but a win on a $10 bet would return a profit of $150.

Bettors should consider team performance, roster strength, injuries, and historical trends when assessing odds. By comparing odds across sportsbooks, individuals can make informed betting decisions during the NHL playoffs.
