Jayson Tatum leads the way as the consensus favorite by the 2024 NBA Finals MVP odds across our best NBA betting sites as the second round of the playoffs rolls along.

It looked like it would be difficult to displace Jayson Tatum and Nikola Jokic atop the NBA Finals MVP odds for weeks.

While Tatum remains a sizable favorite, the Minnesota Timberwolves had other ideas about Jokic. Denver suffered two straight losses to Minnesota to kick off the second round and that sent Jokic tumbling down the oddsboard.

The thing about winning the NBA Finals MVP is that you have to make it to the NBA Finals to do it, and Denver now faces an uphill battle to make that a reality, even after Game 3 on the road.

Tatum is the best player on the best team in the league, but the oddsboard now has Anthony Edwards as perhaps the best player to come off a Timberwolves team that looks poised to make the Western Conference Finals.

Here is our look at the top 2024 NBA Finals MVP odds from our best NBA betting sites, and don't miss our NBA playoffs betting preview.

NBA Finals MVP favorites

Jayson Tatum (+160 via FanDuel)

Without much movement in the odds at the top of the board through one-plus rounds, it's likely best to hold out on betting Tatum in case the Celtics stumble further in this series or the next.

Celtics fans hoping to back Tatum in this market should be hoping for at least one more team loss as they head to Cleveland for Games 3 and 4.

Anthony Edwards (+470 via FanDuel)

Edwards' odds to be the NBA Finals MVP plummeted in the wake of his 43-point eruption in Game 1 against the Nuggets. If Minnesota can escape this second-round series and go on to win the West, Edwards' skyrocketing public opinion will make him a very popular bet in this market.

His odds were raised slightly following Minnesota's blowout loss in Game 3.

Nikola Jokic (+800 via Caesars)

Odds as high as +2000 on Jokic to win this award for a second straight season were cut drastically after Denver rebounded with a Game 3 win. Though the Nuggets remain in an uphill climb in the series, these odds will continue to shorten with each passing win for Denver, so this number is likely worth an investment with an 8-1 return.

NBA Finals MVP odds explained

NBA Finals MVP odds are a way for sportsbooks to set the probability of a specific player winning the MVP award for the NBA Finals. These odds represent the sportsbook's estimation of a player's likelihood to be named the NBA Finals MVP based on various factors such as performance, team success, and historical trends.

The odds for each player are determined based on a combination of factors, including their regular-season and playoff performance, team success, historical trends, public opinion, and betting patterns. Sportsbooks adjust the odds throughout the series based on the players' performances and other relevant factors.

The shorter the odds, the more likely the player is to win the award in the eyes of the sportsbooks. If a player is +260 to win NBA Finals MVP, that means they have a greater chance of winning it than a player that is +1700. However, a bet pays out more if the odds are longer.

It's important to note that odds are not a guarantee but rather a representation of the sportsbook's estimation of the probability of a particular outcome. Different sportsbooks may offer slightly different odds, so it's advisable to compare odds from multiple sources to find the best value.
