The Boston Celtics are the consensus favorites by the 2024 NBA championship odds as the only team to advance from the second round yet based on our best NBA betting sites.
The Boston Celtics have punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals with a 4-1 series victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. That was the expected outcome, and it didn't do much to their position as the favorites by the NBA championship odds, where they've been trading at minus money for about a week.
The Denver Nuggets have been on a rollercoaster. They opened the second round in the second spot on the oddsboard, but after dropping two straight games to the Minnesota Timberwolves, they were near the bottom of the list. Denver bounced back with three straight wins, reclaiming the shortest odds in the Western Conference. A Game 6 loss on Thursday has lengthened the Nuggets' number a little bit, but they remain the favorite to get out of the west.
The New York Knicks pounded the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 to grab a 3-2 series lead. Still, the odds don't have them positioned as serious competitors against the Celtics in the Eastern Conference. The Dallas Mavericks also have a 3-2 series lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder after recording a victory in Game 5 on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Celtics continued what feels like an inevitable quest to reach the NBA Finals. Boston has won back-to-back series by a 3-1 mark, knocking off the Miami Heat and the Cavaliers.
The C's have home-court advantage against their next opponent, the Knicks or Pacers. New York has a 3-2 edge in that series. Boston won four of five games against New York in the regular season and three of five against Indiana.
Nuggets (+350 via bet365)
A 27-point road victory in Game 3 and an 8-point road victory in Game 4 have shown bettors that they should have been flocking to bet the Nuggets' inflated NBA championship odds when they were down 0-2 to the T-Wolves. Even with the series squared up at 2 before tip on Tuesday you could get Denver +400, but those odds have long evaporated as the Nuggets look to finish off the Timberwolves.
Nikola Jokic had a classic MVP-type performance in Game 5, willing his team to victory with 40 points, 13 assists, and seven rebounds. He's one of the biggest threats by the 2024 NBA Finals MVP odds. However, the Nuggets came out flat in Game 6, and Jokic recorded just 22 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.
Timberwolves (+900 via DraftKings)
The Timberwolves vaulted to the second-shortest odds to win it all after jumping out to a 2-0 lead against the Nuggets in their second-round series. However, hope is quickly slipping away after losing both home games and the return game in Denver. Perhaps a glimmer returned with a Game 6 victory, but it's still an uphill battle to win a pivotal Game 7 on Sunday.
A lot of the T-Wolves' success has come from Anthony Edwards's play. Edwards was held to fewer than 20 points in two of Minnesota's last three games, which is not a recipe for success for the underdog. He had a better performance in Game 6, pouring in 27 points while adding four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
