I saw an interview on this and the reason is the coach likes to have as many bases filled for Pujols as he can. Its been working.

his 1st night he did this aug 4th

        - J. Pineiro flied out to left
        - A. Kennedy homered to deep right
        - D. Eckstein flied out to center
        - J. Edmonds struck out swinging

9th hitter hit a solo shot must have been ticked off he was batting 9th

That his lineup shift has been working can't really be argued as the Cardinals are winning with greater frequency in recent weeks. But if that's what La Russa really thinks, then his logic is as flawed as a $19 sportscoat. There are no guarantees that the 9th-place hitter will lead off an inning during a game. If La Russa really wants the sacks drunk for Pujols, he needs to bat him fourth.

I like the Cardinals in this game.

Lilly doesn't really have a big advantage being a lefty IMO. They hit him equally well from both sides of the plate.

Except he has the 5th lowest OBP in the NL for all pitchers.
