In his sixth fight since winning Strikeforce's heavyweight title in November 2007, Alistair Overeem will again compete outside the U.S.-based promotion when he returns to Japan for the latest DREAM event.

Overeem (30-11) is the process of finalizing a bout to appear on the organization's DREAM.12 card, MMAjunkie.com has learned from multiple sources.

The event takes place next week, Oct. 25, at Osaka Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan, and airs live in North America on HDNet.

Two names have popped up as leading candidates to fight Overeem.

One is former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez (37-11). DREAM officials have contacted the 32-year-old fighter and expressed interest in using him. However, Rodriguez, who's already 3-1 in 2009, has been consistently dropping weight throughout the year and could compete as a light heavyweight in his next bout. That would make a fight with the massive Overeem an obviously dangerous proposition.

Another option for Overeem is PRIDE and EliteXC fighter James Thompson (14-10). In fact, some outlets have reported the fight with Overeem as a done deal. Thompson is 0-4 since July 2007 and just 2-8 over the past three and a half years.

Overeem fighting cans is getting extremely old. Maybe he will end James Thompson's life quick enough without hurting himself and actually fight some real competition in Strikeforce...I won't hold my breath.

I think Filho is pretty close to a word I won't say (). I hope the line is not outrageous. Overeem is parlay material.

I might max out on Filho. He's back on the juice in Japan. No way he loses. Also like Sakuraba at +135.

WTF? Guy just disappears. Great, now that money is tied up and I can't use it on 104 because the book probably won't refund it in time.
