    Referees are destroying college football.
Can we bring back the old Lawyer's, Bankers, Businessman that were old and couldn't see. We don't need a flag on every play. Then a review. Garbage

The best refs are the ones we don't notice.

This should be a big part of elite referee training.

True. If you know the name of the referee or umpire after the game 95% of the time it is because they did a poor job. Joe West, Angel Hernandez and a few others became celebrities for all the wrong reasons, for being horrible at their chosen profession.

Be interesting to see the number of penalties per season in NFL and CFB for the last 10 years, if one of you database guys can pull that info easily.

Anyone see that Dolphins game last week? I think there was 1 played the entire 2nd quarter that didn't have a flag. There was probably 14 straight plays with a flag at one point. It is getting beyond ridiculous. Someone should tell these refs the phrase "you can call holding on every play" is just a saying not to be taken literally. I mean if it impacts the play, okay fine, but half these penalties are being called by refs on the other side of the field, 30 yards from where the play went, throwing a flag for a hold.

If the refs of yesteryear had to deal with today's additional rules and were under 15-camera, super slo-mo, hi-def scrutiny, they'd have looked just as bad; there's nothing wrong with the refs, the job has gotten ridiculously harder.

Who is paying officials to make sure Miami stays undefeated? First an overturn TD, with zero video evidence to overturn the call to enable them to win last week. Now an obvious targeting call that was ignored by replay to make sure Cal had to punt to give the ball back to Miami at the end. Both calls the ex ref in the booth said the exact opposite of what ended up being called on the field.

I agree college officials have too much power

in the nfl they only take orders from new york

The refs were hitting the Canes with flags pretty good in the first half last night... I don't think they had an agenda. Cal's good fortune just happened to run out. They caught Miami sleepwalking for 2+ quarters and couldn't deliver the knock-out punch.

Agree but having these kids going across country should be taking into consideration when we are betting these games.

Of course, I'm just pushing back against the idea that Miami was the sole beneficiary of officiating last night.

Well that hit was the definition of a targeting. Literally if you look up what it takes to call a targeting you would see a video of that hit.

Yeah they said that over and over on the broadcast also, but that's a bogus call. You would essentially be ending the game by calling that when it's pretty clear he's trying to murder the guy to get the ball out and turn him over. The qb knew damn well what he was about to get himself into. This wasn't a helpless wide receiver blindsided. They made the right decision. Cal had to do everything humanly imagineable to blow that lead and they did a fantastic job of doing that. Similar to the canes, they could not defend the screen pass for crap. 3rd and 20 inside the 30 and you let him check it down to Martinez for an easy first down? Pathetic.
