#151Kucherov out indefinitely for Lightning with undisclosed injury
'Not a day-to-day thing' coach Cooper says about forward who left win against Capitals
NHL.com @NHLdotcom
Nikita Kucherov will be out indefinitely for the Tampa Bay Lightning because of an undisclosed injury.
The forward did not play the final 9:08 of a 2-1 overtime win against the Washington Capitals on Saturday. He has scored four points (one goal, three assists) in three games this season.
"It's definitely not a day-to-day thing, so we'll wait until we get an official word, but he's definitely out," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said Monday. "He's going to be out for a while here. We're not going to put a timetable on it until we get an official word. In the short term here he's definitely out."
Kucherov, who did not play last regular season while recovering form hip surgery, led the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) to help the Lightning win the Stanley Cup for the second straight season.
Kucherov scored 34 points (seven goals, 27 assists) in 25 playoff games in 2019-20 to become the sixth player to lead the postseason in scoring without a tie in consecutive seasons (Mario Lemieux, 1991-92; Wayne Gretzky, 1987-88; Rick MacLeish, 1974-75; Phil Esposito, 1969-70; Howie Morenz, 1924-25).
"Frustrating more for him because I just know the work it took for him to get back," Cooper said. "He was rewarded in the end with hoisting the Stanley Cup again, but I know he was looking forward to having a big year. As I said it's still early on here so let's see what the official diagnosis is, but anytime he misses one game it's frustrating for him and so I feel for him. Again, let's wait and see what happens."
Forward Corey Perry replaced Kucherov on the top line with Ondrej Palat and Brayden Point at practice Monday.
"Losing a guy like that...and I don't know, I haven't talked to anybody about what's going on...but yeah it's a big hole," said Perry, who signed a two-year contract with the Lightning on July 29. "He's a big part of this team. But they did it last year without him. They found a way. Everybody bought into the system, he came, he got healthy and away they went. It's just a matter of finding that little bit of depth and that little bit of courage to pick him up."
Kucherov was the Lightning's leading scorer for five straight seasons from 2015-20. He won the Hart Trophy voted as NHL MVP, the Art Ross Trophy as the League's leading scorer, and the Ted Lindsay Award as most outstanding player as voted by the NHL Players' Association in 2018-19, when he scored 128 points (41 goals, 87 assists) in 82 games.
Selected by Tampa Bay in the second round (No. 58) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Kucherov has scored 551 points (222 goals, 329 assists) in 518 regular-season games with the Lightning and 127 points (44 goals, 83 assists) in 113 playoff games.

The league announced the suspension without pay on Monday and said Kane will not be eligible to play until Nov. 30 at New Jersey. Kane will forfeit about $1.68 million of his $7 million salary for this season with the money going to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

#156I won the last two nights betting against them. Everybody was on them when they played Philly and that didn't turn out well and then tonight it was easy money taking the Devils because its always tough to play back to backs in the NHL no matter who the team is. I think the Kracken will be ok this year but they were just in a bad spot the last two nights playing on the road. I do think they will compete for a playoff spot but fading them right now might be a good idea.Comment -

#158The NHL’s return to ESPN after 17 years is supercharging advertising sales for Disney, which has nearly sold out commercial time for the season.
The Mouse expects to sell more than $100 million in NHL-related sales this season, sources tell Front Office Sports.
“We are very, very well sold,” said Rita Ferro, president of Disney advertising sales, who declined to comment on numbers. “We have a couple of positions left, mostly in the playoffs and Finals. There was a lot of demand for the NHL on ESPN — and across Hulu and ESPN+.”[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual

#162Earlier this week Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler entered the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol, prompting concerns that the Jets could have a breakout and more positive tests ahead. So far, that has not really been the case. At least not as bad as initially feared. But another one of their players did get added to the league’s protocol on Thursday when Mark Scheifele was added following a positive test.

#163Kraken arena in Seattle ready for home opener against Canucks
$1.15 billion facility features suspended scoreboards, suites with close-up views
SEATTLE -- The Seattle Kraken's home is ready for hockey.
Climate Pledge Arena will host the expansion team's first home game Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks (10 p.m. ET; ESPN+, HULU, CBC, CITY, TVAS2), and media members were given a tour Wednesday.
Among the arena's features are a living wall, a spacious home dressing room, two suspended scoreboards, luxury suites and a club that allows fans to view the Kraken walking to and from the ice.
The living wall has live plants with greenery hanging overhead. Having two suspended scoreboards is a first for a professional arena, according to the architect, Populous. Forty luxury suites line the arena bowl along with 19 Tunnel Club suites, which give fans a close-up view of the players.
The Kraken dressing room is complete with a giant "S" logo on the ceiling. The dressing room stalls were empty Wednesday because the players have yet to visit; they won't do so until Saturday because of a Coldplay concert at the arena Friday. (The building opened with a concert by Foo Fighters on Tuesday.)
Before heading to their seats, fans will walk past a video board with a virtual waterfall. The board can be updated depending on the event.
This feature allows us to change the images and offer our guests a unique experience," Climate Pledge Arena vice president of marketing Rosie Selle said.
Construction began in February of 2018 on the site of Seattle Center Coliseum, which was built for the 1962 World's Fair and renamed Key Arena in 1994. As part of the project, the 44-million-pound roof that covered Key Arena was preserved by suspending it with columns while 680,000 cubic yards of soil were removed underneath.
Capacity at the arena is 17,100 for hockey, 17,200 for concerts and 18,100 for basketball; it will also be home to the Seattle Storm of the WNBA. To reach those capacities, builders had to dig down 50 feet, and the result was a 740,000-square-foot building, almost twice the size of Key Arena.
