Can you tease in both directions to "middle"?
Here is the situation, would have worked on MNF, I'm just wondering if there is any advantage in playing both teams with a total.

    Rams +7 Over 44

If I were to place a teaser of Rams +13 and over 38 as well as a teaser of Giants -1 and over 38 I win both bets here. Risking 1.1 units on each wins a total of 2 units.

Now the only way this bet would be placed is if the total wins. I was very confident in the total, especially teased by 6 points.

A more beneficial spread would be 6 points. This way, the dog get's 12 points, and the favorite is straight up (essentially buying the ML). There is a chance to middle if the favorite wins by 12 points or less. In any instance, at least one side will win so the worst case scenario is winning one teaser and losing the other (other than if the total loses obviously). This split of the teaser will result in losing .1 units. If, however, the favorite wins by 12 points or less, we win 2 units.

This may sound confusing, but it seems to me that as long as the total wins, there are two outcomes, win 2 units or lose .1 units. Clearly if the total loses, we lose 2.2 units. I still see this as a beneficial play because we are getting 6 points in either direction on the total.

What am I missing here, do I need to explain more clearly? I'd like someone to point out the hole in my thinking if there is one.

    I would advise against it.

If you are confident that the total will go over 38 in more than 75% of time, go for it. But generally it is not a good idea.

Teasers that cross the 3 and 7 are known as "wise-guy" teasers. If you tease both sides in a game, or worse, the over and under in the same game, sportsbooks call it "dumb-guy" teasers. I cannot think of a worse possible way to use teasers, since you are parlaying plays that are negatively correlated. Remember, when one side of a teased spread covers, the other side is less likely to cover.

          Eli,
          Very poignant, specific and smart.
          Thanks
