What percentage of NHL games are won by 2 or more goals?

How can you be a serious puckline bettor and not know this stat?

like 3/10 ish. Most games are one point games but the open net goals make it two point games. there are very few Blowouts. 25-30%

Thanks for your reply - am surprised at 30%.
Here is what i am going to do - I will go through last years games and work out:

1. Total % won by 2 or more.
2. Home % won by 2 or more.
3. Away % won by 2 or more.

This may take a bit of time for me to get the time to do it so if anyone else wants to --- then go for it.

A years stats usually provide a pretty close mirror to historical stats.

By my quick count, so far this season, and excluding the games played at neutral sites in Europe, there have been 27 games and 12 decided by two or more goals.

Ironically I just researched the stats on this for last season, here is what I found.

642 games (52%) had a 2 goal or more margin of victory. Avg number of goals scored per game was 5.68 with avg margin of victory 2.02 goals.

Of those 642 games here is the breakdown of total number of goals since I know people correlate the over with 2 goal margin victories.

36 or 6% had total of 2 goals
43 or 7% had total of 3 goals
111 or 17% had total of 4 goals
94 or 15% had total of 5 goals
114 or 18% had total of 6 goals
93 or 14% had total of 7 goals
67 or 10% had total of 8 goals
41 or 6% had total of 9 goals
29 or 5% had total of 10 goals
12 or 2% had total of 11 goals (includes 2 games of total 13 goals)

388 of these games were won by the visitor and 254 won by the home team.

Interesting how the road team is WAY ahead in 2 goal victories.
Considering the home team is favored the majority of the time, LY you could have made a buck or two on the roadie Alt Goal line.
52% are decided by 2 and 60% of those are won by the road team.
31%...........would pay better than 3.5 to 1 most times. IMHO

I wish I had the lines to see if the road teams were fav's or dogs. I was surprised to see the road teams come out on top of that stat.

Just had a look at my spreadsheet again to factor in 1 goal games and visitors won 55% of last years games. Interesting.
