Atleast they fight in hockey. NBA players are a bunch of cry baby pussies. NBA is by far the most boring sport i dont know how you can say hockey is boring?? I usually only watch the last 3-4 minutes of any NBA game i bet because thats all that really matters.

what is with the 3 periods? why isn't there just halftime like every other sport.

the goalies are pretty much the size of the net, any goal is a mistake by the goalie, or a tip in.

First of all it's called HD.

That stands for High Definition. If you can't afford it, maybe you can go to a friend's house to see the puck.

Second of all, if you do in fact prefer basketball over hockey, then good riddance. 15 time outs, 18 commercials, and 42 deliberate fouls later...we might be able to watch the last 2 minutes of an NBA game in just under half n hour.

On a constructive perspective:
I live in Albuquerque New Mexico
Most people here don't watch hockey

most people say: it's boring
puck is too hard to see

then they ask dumb questions:
What's that line mean?
Why do they fight?
Why does the puck go all the way back to the other end?

What I do, is show people how to watch hockey.
Personally, I've had a lot of success explaining hockey and showing them how it's done.

Explain shit:
Tell'em what a 'pinch' is and why they don't want to get caught doing it.
Explain why they flip it behind the net when they don't got a shot
Explain what Tomas Holmstrom or Patrick Marleau is doing
Explain why they call Nicolas Lidstrom 'the quarterback' when he's at the blue line looking for a receiver on the offensive end
Explain Joe Thorton's pass for a one timer and why he's gotta lay it in between the legs for a one-timer.
Why do they change on the fly, and tell them about fatigue(you can't see the line change on T.V. very well)

But, do you have a good answer for 4 quarters and 2 halves

But, the NBA has 4 quarters, and 2 halves
The NCAA has 2 halves, and each half has 4 T.V. timeouts which act like NBA quarters

To all the hockey haters/non fans make sure you watch SJ/DET tonight. Even if you don't understand or watch the game often, tonights game will be a beauty and may make you a fan of the game.

It's the most exciting sport to watch hands down, especially in the playoffs. I'm a huge football, college hoops, baseball & hockey fan, but the NHL & International hockey (IIHF Championships are on Versus over the next 5 days) are fast, skillful & have contact as tough as the NFL with less padding. I love it when people try to say this sport is boring (usually because of their ignornace), but they also say they like NASCAR, golf, bowling or watching poker on ESPN! Nothing wrong with those sports if that's what your into, but to say hockey is boring while trying to defend those sports is laughable. It's like saying " i love cube steak, but that porterhouse is awful".

Yes, plenty, have to say the 51 inch plasma TV I just got makes it much easier to follow the puck. Can't wait till they do some games in 3D.

Exactly. I'm not a big hockey fan either but I don't go out bragging about it. The sport is pretty fast paced which has it's positives and negatives. I'm a bigger fan of basketball but it's even harder to watch with all the time outs/fouls. Unless there is a very important/exciting match up in either sport I'd watch the entire thing otherwise I'd rather chill out doing something else.

Is it a tradition in SBR to go to other forums and bash the sport? If you don't like it, ignore it. Simple.

we did change the t.v.'s from Bulls/Hawks to Sharks/Wings

the NBA game was crap, I guess
I don't know, I thought it was close but the Bulls pulled away and the people wanted it changed to hockey
Unusual for us because we're a basketball/baseball/football more favored state

But that's a tribute to how good that game was
