Looking at all the probable runners, i think this is going to be a great preakness
will rachael alexandra be good enough to run with the boys and how will the other newcomer hull whom i think is un defeated do with this class

well, who does everyone like in this race. I have to view all charts before i choose my pick but leaning on 3 horses right now

        Fillies in the Preakness Stakes

Excellent Meeting in 1999 was the last
filly to run in the Preakness
        Date: 05/09/09

Since 2009 Kentucky Oaks winner Rachel Alexandra may be supplemented to the Preakness Stakes this year, here is a look at the history of fillies in the Preakness. If Rachel Alexandra does run, she will become the first Kentucky Oaks winner to start in the Preakness.

So far only four fillies have won the Preakness Stakes: Nellie Morse (1924), Rhine Maiden (1915), Whimsical (1906), and Flocarline (1903). In total, there have been 52 fillies to start in the Preakness with 4 winning, 5 finishing second, and 8 finishing third. It is interesting to note that a filly, Regret, also won the Kentucky Derby in 1915, however she did not start in the Preakness.

The last filly to enter the Preakness was Excellent Meeting in 1999. She did not have much luck and pulled up after after 6 furlongs, but she did come back to race again and retired after her 4-year-old season. The most recent filly prior to her was Kentucky Derby winning filly Winning Colors who finished 3rd in the Preakness.

Here is a chart of all the fillies in the Preakness Stakes with their odds (* indicates the post time favorite) and finish position with winners in bold. There are no odds available for the races before 1900 and a few charts from 1900-1906 did not have odds for all horses so some will be missing if they were not listed.

Inside posts are golden. If the filly draws inside she will be very tough. The one drawback is she seems to prefer her races spread apart. Yet the other side of that coin is the ? is just how much the Oaks victory took out of her. Then there is the price, anything under 5/2 is an underlay imho.. To me she wins or finishes up the track, there is no middle ground. I want to see the post positions before I come up with a selection.

Nellie Morse (1921-1941) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse best known as the last filly to win the Preakness Stakes. Her sire was Luke McLuke, who won the 1914 Belmont Stakes and who was a son of the important but unraced Ultimus who had been sired by Commando. From the mare La Venganza, Nellie Morse's damsire was the Australian multi-race winner, Abercorn.

Owned by the prominent American cartoonist, Bud Fisher, Nellie Morse was trained for racing by Albert B. Gordon. Sent to the track at age two, the filly won the five furlong Fashion Stakes at Belmont Park and was second in the Spinaway Stakes. In the Matron Stakes she finished ahead of future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Princess Doreen but was second to Greentree Stables' winning filly, Tree Top.

In 1924, the three-year-old Nellie Morse finished second to Princess Doreen in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. She was then sent to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland where she won the 1⅛ mile Pimlico Oaks and, racing against colts, on May 12, 1924 won the second of what became the American Classic Races, the Preakness Stakes. Just the fourth filly to win the Preakness since its inception fifty-one years earlier in 1873, as at 2008 she remains the last filly to have won the race.

Retired from racing to serve as a broodmare, Nellie Morse was notably mated to Reigh Count, producing Count More, winner of the 1937 Ben Ali Stakes and Clark Handicap. As well, her mating to American Flag produced the filly Nellie Flag who was the 1934 American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly.

Nellie Morse died in 1941 at age twenty.

THE LAST FILLY TO RUN I PREAKNESS WAS EXCELLENT MEETING IN 1999 WHO QUIT AFTER 6 FURLONGS(BOYS WERE TOO TOUGH)
THEN BEHIND HER WAS WINNING COLORS IN 1988 WHO GOT 3RD(BOYS WERE TOO TOUGH) AND BEHIND HER IN 1980 WAS GENUINE RISK(ANOTHER VERY GOOD HORSE) WHO COULD ONLY GET 2ND IN THE PREAKNESS.

IS RACHAEL THE BEST FILLY WE EVER SAW IN A LIFETIME, BECAUSE ACCORDING TO HISTORY , IF SHES NOT, SHE WONT BEAT THE BOYS

ps WINNING COLORS AND GENUINE RISK WERE SOME OF THE GREATEST FILLIES AND COULDNT WIN PREAKNESS

WE WILL SEE, AND I HOPE THE G-MAN IS RIGHT
I WILL MAKE MY PICKS AFTER I REVIEW THE PAST PERFORMANCES AND CHARTS AND AFTER POST POSITIONS ARE DRAWN

I ALSO HAVE A NEWCOMER IN MIND FOR A LONGSHOT IN PREAKNESS CALLED HULL BUT I WON T CONFIRM THAT UNTIL I FIGURE THINGS OUT

The fact is that this type of history will help the price. Rags To Riches beat the boys in The Belmont. Plus there is a question as to the overall quality of this years crop of three year olds. The best 3yo's may still be developing. Rachel Alexandra could go straight to the top and never know who is behind her. I love this filly can't beat the colts talk. Give me an off track, inside post and 3/1 or more and I"ll send it in on this filly.

The Oaks looked like a public work imho think the Derby took more out of the horses with the goo than the Oaks did with the slop. Will have her on top of a ticket then playing against her and MTB. GQ has a on off type run line and this race would be all go for him,POTN could be dangerous here along with MM, and going to use Big Drama .Might take a stab with a longshot or 2 like Flying Private,Tone it Down just not a KD fan,and Luv Gov.have to wait and see the post draws and sratches but will have RA on top for sure and with all the hype about the trainers trying to block her out I hope she wins by daylight.

In the end, I will select #13 Rachel Alexandra to win. The minus four on the sheets tipped the choice in her favor.

$5.60 is the win payoff for a two dollar win wager. Off odds 9/5. Not that much different from 13/8 just a little better.
