NASCAR started releasing best consecutive 10 lap practice times for the first time last week.

Will be interesting to track how good of a pointer it turns out to be. I bet it helps big time here.

I wish there was somewhere we could just get all the raw lap time data to analyze as we please.

For years, people who closely follow NASCAR have understood that "fastest in practice" is a bit of a misnomer. After all, being fast for a single lap (which is how the practice charts are ordered)...

Here is a list of the drivers with better Qualifying and Race results than their career average at this track.

First number is how much better in Quali and second number is how much better in race results.

Jimmie runs well here but has never won. He is the prohibited favorite. Stewart doesn't usually qualify well so hope for better odds later.

It's hard to take a team that doesn't run up front much. Theres a reason they don't usually do well.

David Reutimann is one of the nice guys around NASCAR and you can't help but feel good about his winning. I get that way when Jeff Burton wins too. And I think MWR is making big strides to try and become one of the big boys. But I also think JJ wins this one hands down if not for the Truex incident.

You may be right, but he had the tire problem too. It was one of those nights. Besides at the end of the race Reutimann was flying.

Yeah it was crazy how Gordon was out front looking like no one would catch him and TNT comes back from break and the double zero is out front. Just ran him down from way back in 3rd I think. Then just drove away.

I was at the race, and I can tell you that the racing was a lot more fun to watch in person than it seems to have come off on television.

That was the best racing in 10 years at that track. Was awesome to watch the racing front to mid pack in person.
