This is a very interesting system. What team and date created the losses for each losing event in the dataset? I want to see if there is a pattern. I have a chase system of my own, and I managed to uncover a pattern that when addressed, helped mitigate several losses by excluding games that fit that pattern. It does remove additional plays, but it removed less than 18 which made the exclusion, profitable. I wonder if this system has a similar vulnerability. I don't need the entire data set. I just need the team and date when the series began that led to the loss.

Losses are tracked by skyscrapers on the daily posts. One filter that I personally use is avoiding a team if they lost the (D) bet previously in the season. It eliminates the terrible teams that can't cover large spreads. Backtesting wise this has come out positive but obviously not a large sample size given the rarity of which losses occur in the first place.

I have the results of my analysis. It's a no-brainer. I'm going to save you guys a ton of money. I'll be back in about an hour (gotta go pick up the kiddos). Believe me, the results are going to blow your heads off.

The analysis I performed was based on things that can be controlled on the date of the trigger. A trigger meaning that a team met the criteria and a post was created to trigger the series, and a (A) bet was initiated.

During the creation of my own chase system, I realized that top ranked teams are simply above and beyond in terms of quality versus the other teams in the league. The counter is also true that the lowest ranked teams are not just slightly worse than the rest of the league, they were truly terrible.

I felt compelled to run this analysis because of my own discoveries, and I hope that this analysis will help optimize this system, as it's a pretty good system that needs a few more filters to mitigate a huge portion of the risk.

Without further ado: These are the results of my analysis:

24 losses were recorded from beginning of posting (10-22-2015)

I used teamrankings.com to get the Predictive Ranks of every team that has lost (from the initial series trigger date).

1. Out of the 24 losses recorded: 13 losses occurred from teams ranked 27 or lower (this is on the trigger date (A), not on the dates that the games were played (B), (C), or (D)). This is a very preventable occurrence.

2. Remaining losses came from teams ranked 16 or lower, but there were some patterns there as well. If you have access to the next 4 games for that team, you can check the rankings of the future opponents (again, on the date of the trigger) to see if there are at least 2 teams with a rank of 8 or better. These can be avoided to mitigate risk. Remember, you can always wait until the opponent ranks re-arrange in your favor as long as the team continues to lose.

I do realize that sometimes losses are just part of the system. However, I would highly suggest a back-test that excludes these specific scenarios to see if the back-saves make up for the missed wins. For sure, #1 is an absolute money saver. I can't fathom justifying the continuation of the system in its current state when a simple modification can back-save 260 unit of losses.

If both situations were avoided, 24 losses would have shrunk down to 4. Again, I do not know how much of the winnings will have been affected if the system were to be modified as specified, but 4 losses over 8~9 years is a fantastic result.

Another very interesting fact, there were zero losses from teams ranked 15 or better. Which means, that instead of limiting to a 1 unit gain, you should really think about increasing the initial wager to capitalize on this metric.

Insightful analysis, but without a backtest it's just theory. Teams played are coming off 3 SU/ATS losses and so nature of the system would skew towards the lower half of the league. By applying a top 15 filter we could be eliminating a ton of wins as well.

That's only applicable to the 2nd part of the analysis. The first part (rank 27 or worse) filter is a huge money saver. Back testing isn't critical there since it equates to roughly 260 units (several seasons worth of gains in losses). Of course there will be wins where those lower ranked teams will eventually win ML/ATS in the 4 matchups, but it'll be a small fraction compared to the losses.

Also, it's not a bottom half filter. It's a bottom half with a schedule that consists of two opponents ranked 8 or better in the next 4 games.

I would say, start it up in your own thread as to not create confusion in this one. As Ken mentioned, it's only a theory, and right now things are being run very smoothly by Sky. I do not want to mix two systems in here. While you are simply calling it "tweaking", in reality, it's actually a whole new system that you are proposing, though mimicking mine. So as I asked, please do it in your own thread. Then you can set any criteria you propose and track those results in real time. Thanks.

This is fair. I can run the backtests, I have the data for 2019-current. I know SBR archives has the rest. I can scrape teamrankings for the other dates. Heck, I can probably go as far back as 2007-2008. The obvious question is: Does it make a difference to you guys? If it doesn't, I won't even bother.

Definitely would appreciate the backtests but would also welcome a new thread on results and modifications etc.

I'm working on the backtesting as we speak. It'll take a day or two for 2019 - current results. I can work in the rest once the structure is in place. I'll report back with results, and as Skyscrapers and WallCo99 has requested, I'll just include the full game picks along with my quarter chase system thread.
