I love discussions about locals. The entire topic will be hugely interesting once sports betting is allowed next year and tax stuff, etc, because it can be tracked. Will locals be more competitive as a result? It should make them that way, if they stick around. Or maybe it doesn't matter if BTC is still around and used widely. But even then you have to have a wallet that's not tracked. Hmm, I'm looking into ledger or trezor

Legalization will also bring large penalties for illegal bookies via laws that are easy to prosecute them under. I doubt many will survive.

So you are predicting a marked decrease in locals, Optional?

Locals are high risk as far as paying unless an agent is tied to a major online sportsbook

It is just not worth it

Credit. Trustworthiness. Pain in the arse to get a check you may or may not be able to cash at a bank, and if so, it's tracked.

I hope the legalized sports betting next year opens up more avenues for shops and locals alike.

Do you see locals declining dramatically like Optional suggests will happen?

Who said sports betting will be legal? Youre saying we will see "mom and pop" type sportsbooks popping up ?

NJ is trying to legalize sports betting in their state. The sports leagues including the NCAA is fighting them (successfully so far) by claiming it violates the federal law PASPA which essentially bans sports betting everywhere except a few states as they were grandfathered in. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case to decide whether PASPA is constitutional (previous cases have called this into question, but have not outright ruled on it as the law's constitutionality was not being argued in those cases) and will have oral arguments on December 4th. They will likely hand down their ruling in the spring (March) or June when the Court's session ends. If the Court strikes down the law, then you could see the flood gates open as states would likely pass legislation to jump in on the new source of money.

if you bet with btc you have a huge advantage as the market goes up. stay consistent and the bankroll steadily climbs when betting with btc.
