Sending private messages not showing up in sent items

I have the required 40 posts in order to be able to send private messages, and I have sent a few but they don't show up in my sent items and I have not received any responses. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Steve, please check your General settings and under "Sent Private Messages" choose the option "Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default", messages should show in your sent items after.
