hi newbies,
i'm new to this site too but have been in this game for awhile. i'll give you my humble view on whether someone should follow a pay service or not.
if you follow the links here at sbr you can go to the service play forum and get many capper picks for free. what a deal, right?! it will just confuse you. if they list 100 cappers there on a given game, think about the split of opinions. 1/2 like brown, the other 1/2 like yale. so how do you choose?
it's hard to find any good cappers that would be worth buying. just when you've researched and think this is "the guy". he turns dead cold. you lose your bankroll and start chasing bets till you are at zero. then your out of the game for awhile. don't get caught in that loop.
there are 100's of people on this site that think these guys lead people in a way indicating cappers or vegas knew the outcome before it happened. that's bogus. if these guys could pick winners everyday, they would.
also don't let anyone on here make you think fading (going the opposite way) a capper works either. if a capper can pick losers they also could pick winners. all these guys have streaks.
if you don't have a system to use (maybe you just like the rush of the action) finding a consistent one is a better risk than most average joe's sitting at home thinking they can do this and make money.
if you have no system and no long term plan, but do it for the rus, i would suggest you follow someone like "crusher" on the service play thread. he is pretty good. usually gives a football, a basketball and a hockey pick each day. decent results since i've been tracking. RAS is another service you can find in the service area too. he's good. most of them come across as snake oil salesmen. you can watch their videos every day. you can get free pics every day. depends on how much you want to lose.
when starting out with a small bankroll remember the following
* the impotance of money management can't be underestimated. you can't win, if your not in the game. don't bet more than 30% of your bankroll. once it's grown you can alter the % but till then bet lightly now matter how tempted you are
* never bet sports that you don't follow just for the rush of the action
* if following a service, and you don't like the bet, don't place it. nothing worse than sitting around whining about how you knew that team wasn't going to cover.
* bet online with a book versus a local guy. trust me when i say, as nice as having a local can be, there are too many liabilities to make the risk worth it. basically, the off shore guys make you put the money up upfront. locals in many cases don't. then there's the dodging. the local, the wife, the bill collectors. read between the lines.
* have more than one book to use so you can shop the lines for the best value.
* bet as few of games as you can convince yourself to bet. then decrease a bet or two from that. to make money you can't constantly bet a high quantity of games and plan on winning.
* come up with some sort of system ( i use a ken pomroy system that i have determined addition filters on) to use to eliminate bets that i would have made.
* always remember the lines are set to entice you into thinking that you know the winner of that game. unfortunately you don't. funny thing is, neither do they. but their awful good at it.
good luck to all
