All these years I would only think about it as whether or not "the favorite covers the spread." It's kind of a specific question, but does it have any bearing talking about the favorite covering the spread. Now, I hear whether or not "the underdog covers the spread." I would think in terms of do you cover the -3.5 points you are giving, but maybe it means the same thing, do you cover the +3.5 you are getting. You know what I mean, does it have anything to do with "covering" the points you are giving away, or you can say "covering" the points you are getting just the same. The question is basically to do with the word covering, and if it applies to both the favorite and the underdog in exactly the same way..I'd appreciate it if you could try to clue me in on this one a little bit. thanks

#2I've never heard of an underdog "covering"...Comment -
#3It depends on how you look at it, I hear many of times when someone says Team A or team B covers and it did not have to be the favorite.Comment -
#4both of those answers help, and it makes sense to what I was reading, but thanks sinister for clearing up that it does at least in one way of speaking apply directly to the favorite.Comment -
#5The dog lost, but still covered...
I think of cover as "win the bet when adjusted for the spread".Comment
