Jay, u know I'm a fan of the thread. I love Vegas trips on a budget. We discussed the issue of:

* Reasonably-priced rooms (or even comped room) on Sun-Thurs
* Much more expensive rooms on Fri/Sat

If I want to stay at a nice place like Red Rock, I'll try to stay Sun-Thurs. On Fri/Sat, I'm just looking for a place to stay, mid-level at best.

If u can pull the overniter, that's an option too (to skip a nite of hotel-fare). I used to be able to do it. Now much tougher, I tire out.

Many years ago, I went to Wendover the whole weekend. Didn't bother getting a room, just stayed up and gambled the whole weekend. Actually made enuf $$ to pay for the trip/flight.

Jay, if you're staying Downtown a few more days, I have some ideas for u. I used to stay Downtown every trip I made to Vegas. I'm sure u know most/all of this, but my tips:

1) You're not that far from the new Gamb Book Club location. Just walk down from Plaza about one mile and you're there. You don't mind the exercise. Can easily spend 2 hours in there browsing books.

2) The El Cortez is ok for blackjack play, but it's deteriorating. Last time I was in there, the Double-Deck game was gone. Just bad Single-deck games, IE quick-shuffles. Whatever u do, DON'T stoop to playing 6/5 blackjack. 3/2 or pass.

3) I believe the Plaza has some really cheap poker tournaments. Entry fee may be $20 or even less.

4) Golden Gate is my favorite place for breakfast menu. Not sure about other items, but omelets are very good.

5) If you're trying to do any serious line-shopping on games, Downtown is great. Can get 3 or 4 unique #s within a 10-minute walk.

6) California is one of my favorites for quick stop. The table games suck. REally like the ice-cream shop on 2nd floor. I used to play Aruze Big Fish game, but they pulled it out.

7) The D (old Fitzgerald's) houses the old-school Sigma Derby on 2nd floor. U aren't a true degenerate until u bet on mechanical horses!

Id love to go into detail about all the terrible beats I sustained down the stretch but, sufice to say, after I hit a set of sixes and lost to a 10-7c flush, i knew it was time to leave while I was up.
The hand before that was even more disgusting.

I stopped hitting and am happy i didnt tilt and give it all back.

I picked my chips at $234.
At one point I had $300+.

I know a $74 profit doesnt seem like much but, the way ive been running over the past 5 days, its certainly an improvement.

Gonna comcentrate on the baseball games tomorrow & maybe try a few $20 parlays.

Bobby's Room will have to wait till tomorrow!!

Gonna head back to the room, watch Fox News and get a good night's sleep.* Wanna be fresh for tomorrow.

PS: NEVER take the Deuce downtown on a Saturday night. Every 3 mins. we travel 14 feet. My flight to Toronto will be boarding by the time I get to Charleston!

The D was hoppin' last night & Freemont St was even crazier.* Downtown is certainly a little rougher than the strip but, if you are looking for a never ending party, Freemont St doesnt fail to deliver.

Yes, no-brainer in purchasing one or more for those spending time on Vegas

The usage of the D $100 coupon ALONE is worth over $300 overall when coupled with other promos in EV for a few hours of play......in addition to snaring free rooms and dining credits, and the vast majority don't even maximize that coupon, which is by far the best in the book

every single casino operator in vegas except for stevens downtown has drastically reduced their budgets for player reinvestment but our resident bullshit artist fishhead, says it has never been better. can't make this shit up.
