#72It's a world wide event like the Olympics, it's just not gonna happen every year. I don't see what is difficult to understand about that.Comment -
#73are you really comparing the olympics to the world cup?
how many fan base is there for the olympics pal?
give me a fukking break.Comment -
#74US is pretty much the only country where its not as popular as the rest of the world. And because Americans think the world revolves around them they think if they don't like it no one else should either.
As far as guys complaining about draws your idiots. Besides NHL none of the American leagues use a points system in standings and its simply part of the game. Until recently NHL games were allowed to end in a tie as well.Comment -

Some people appareantly believe that in order to play soccer all you need is a rock to kick around. But if you want to play baseball f.inst. then you need bat, gloves, ball, caps, hotdog stand etc.Comment -
#77well i guess it's too late to change it now since they already have an archaic system but the world cup should occur at least once every two years.
i remember one year when a columbian soccer player was killed from kicking his own goal.
soccer fans seem very passionate about the sport, i'm just surprised they can wait for years.Comment -
#78You really think soccer should just be dedicated to the World Cup. While the players have other jobs in the hundreds of leagues out there to make their money. Makes no sense, the system is just fine but you know it all.Comment -
#79It is not my example. It is something often stated by Americans on this board. Just read post nr 9 in this thread:

#82You guys are arguing with a handful of soccer haters on a gambling forum. The fact you think this represents everyone in a country of well over 300 million makes you just as arrogant/stupid as those you're arguing with. OP set the bait and you bit.

I know. But these threads are always entertaining to read. This great video shows that not all Americans hate soccer:

#83you soccer fans are a sensitive bunch.
no one really answered my initial question with a good answer.
if you euros asked why is football so popular in the states, i certainly wouldn't get defensive and try to twist people's words around.
but hey to each their own...Comment -

If I started a thread saying:
Why do you americans like football? The only good thing about it is all the commercials so I dont have to watch that awful sport all the time.
Would you then think I wanted to learn more about the sport. Or i was just being a troll?
FYI: I also love football and have attended several games live in US.Comment -
#85It's a team sport, almost anyone can play (all you need is something to kick), and there are endless possibilities to how creative you can be. Also, scoring points is more epic due to how much build up a team or individual player needs to make.
There are a thousand other reasons.Comment
