Im gonna be a little dated here since Im older than most, but my vote goes to the Allman brothers, these motherfvckers can jam, they also led the way to alot of the southern rock bands.

#20I hadn't really stopped to think about how weak America has been in the field of rock until now.
America has certainly made a contribution to rock music. You got yer various combinations of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young who are world class at what they do - some of which is rock - but you can't call them a straight-up rock band. Dylan of course has done some rock and roll and is an all-time, world-class lyricist but again, not what you call a rock band.
I don't have an answer for this thread that feels right. I like The Band. I like CCR. I like Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. But none of those have that greatest of all-time feel for me.Comment -

#34Having given it some thought, I think my personal choice would be Cracker. I'm a big Dave Lowery fan. That's alt. rock if that counts.
I doubt many people here have ever heard of Cracker (or Lowery's other band, Camper Van Beethoven).
But that's what I come up with for this topic.
