I guessed I should have explained those two lines from the SSB. Also I shouldn't have put "slaves" in bold because people seemed to have missed what the verse says and instead focused on the song mentioning slavery. During those lines the song praises how there is no refuge for slaves from their fate of death. If you didn't know, slaves tried fighting for their freedom. Which is ironic because the next line includes "the land of the free."

That verse is part of the song and we shouldn't be getting upset at Colin choosing to sit during a song that celebrates "the gloom of the grave" for slaves. Keep in mind, these are the same slaves who are the ancestors of a lot of the athletes that we root for. Why is this song our national anthem to begin with? Like I said in my first post, Woodrow Wilson made it our national anthem. The same guy who said this, "The white men were roused by a mere instinct of self-preservation ... until at last there had sprung into existence a great Ku Klux Klan, a veritable empire of the South, to protect the Southern country." I don't think anyone should be getting mad at Colin for him choosing to sit during this song. There are other ways to honor our country, choosing a different song would be a start.

If Colin were sitting out for those very reasons you just mentioned maybe we could all think different but he's not.. He's probably not even aware of the lyrics and contents that you are suggesting in regards to our National Anthem....

No one thinks it's a racist song as it's just part of our American history for better or for worse.. Most Americans black or white feel pride in hearing our NA play.. No one is thinking about Slavery or anything like that when it is played..

Slavery does not go on today and blacks and whites play and work just fine together in the real working world and in sports.. In the ghetto it's a slightly different story though with BLM and the unnecessary hatred and racial tension that is brewing..

I was listening to a black activist earlier this morning. (What was I thinking?)

Anyway, he said the major problem in America was cops targeting blacks. Saying even though the blacks in question were criminals, they didn't deserve their fate. Being shot at, murdered, etc. The reporter questioning the black activist went on to show documented evidence from a Harvard study that he was misrepresenting his opinion as facts. The black activist wanted no part of the discussion after that.

The reporter went on to ask the black activist isn't the real problem in the black community black-on-black crime.

The black activist strongly and defiantly went on to say that no, that wasn't the biggest problem. The biggest problem, he stated, was the fact that the government hasn't outlawed guns.

I turned the channel.

Watching Jim Brown speak just now on NFL TV live. He says he feels he's been brought back in time with Crapernick sit out stunt.. He says he understands it but wouldn't do that himself today.. Remember Jim Brown is a serious black activist and sports legend..

He says the biggest problem in the black communities today is young blacks killing other young blacks period.. I was shocked to hear him say that.. Then he went on to say he talks about that more then anything else when speaking to young black youths and then he said he preaches get an education after that..
