    World Series Ticket Prices
Fans hoping to see the Cubs play in the World Series for the first time since 1945 are finding a seat could cost them more than what their grandparents paid for their houses.

The euphoria from Saturday night's victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers gave way Monday to the realization that history doesn't come cheap.

Wrigley Field box seats on ticket-selling sites such as StubHub were $50,000 (all figures US) and up, with one seller asking $100,000 for a seat and another asking for just under $1 million. But there are lots of box seat tickets in the $5,000 to $10,000 range. Tickets to just get into the park and stand behind those with actual seats were going for more than $2,200 each. List prices for World Series tickets at Wrigley range from $85 to $565, according to Major League Baseball figures.

World Series tickets cost a lot more in Cleveland, too — well above the $83 to $750 list price range that MLB provided for Progressive Field — but are not as expensive as those in Chicago. And there are indications that Cubs fans, getting a look at what they'd pay at Wrigley versus Progressive, are buying two tickets: one for a plane and one for a game.

Ticket brokers were being flooded with calls from fans looking for tickets and, as of Monday, they were willing to pay as much as $12,000, said Dan Makras of Classic Tickets in Chicago. But he said prices might climb because Cubs fans are proving to be reluctant to sell no matter how much money they're offered.

I'm going to Chicago for a couple games. No tickets but I would assume we will see prices drop near game time. Could be wrong but can't imagine all tickets will get bought before game and at some point sellers will be willing to accept a little less to not eat the ticjet

If Chicago aldermen want to go to the World Series at Wrigley Field, they’ll have to cough up big bucks on the secondary market just like the rest of us die-hard Cubs fans.

To the delight of the newly-appointed Ethics Board chairman and the disdain of the City Council, the Cubs have pulled the lucrative offer to let aldermen purchase tickets at face value for the third, fourth and fifth games of the Series.

The about-face comes three days after the city’s Board of Ethics issued new rules that made it more difficult for aldermen, who preside over all things Wrigley Field, to take advantage of the ticket offer.

The ethics ordinance prohibits city employees and elected officials from accepting gifts worth more than $50. The difference between the face value of Cubs playoff tickets and the “commonly understood fair market value” exceeds that $50 limit, the board has said.

In a revised memorandum issued late Friday, the Board of Ethics said the mayor and aldermen can accept the offer only if their “personal attendance is to enable them to perform an official, appropriate, ceremonial duty or action, such as publicly welcoming the crowd or making a speech, throwing out the first pitch, marching with the color guard or standing with other elected officials on the field.”

There also must be a “clear and direct connection” between the official’s attendance and performance of such ceremonial duty or action and the nature and location of the event itself,” the ruling stated.

Faced with those restrictions, the Cubs yanked the offer, unwilling to go through those contortions and risk looking like the team was attempting to curry favor with aldermen who regulate Wrigley.

The average ticket sold for this World Series cost $2,983.46, according to TicketIQ, which aggregates sale prices from secondary markets like StubHub. That’s more than double the average price for the Mets-Royals series in 2015, which was the most expensive championship since the company began keeping track.

That doesn’t mean that you should get ripped off. Here’s how to protect yourself if you’re in the market for Series tickets:

                          – While your emotions are clouded by the fact your home team is in the series, don’t fall for deals that appear too good to be true. Prices that seem too low are probably illicit, warns the Better Business Bureau (BBB)

                          – “Go to reputable ticket brokers and licensed websites and avoid scalpers,” the BBB advises. “Buyers can search the bureau’s database for accredited businesses.

                          – Use a credit card when possible. That way you have a better chance of getting your money back if you’re scammed by disputing the charge with the credit card company.

                          – Beware of tickets hawked on Craigslist. “Though not every transaction ends in heartbreak, there’s no denying that the risk of falling victim to a Craigslist scam is much higher once the stakes are raised come playoff time,”according to Amy Hyerczyk of Vivid Seats, an online ticket service.

                          – Avoid cash transations. “Stay away from sellers who ask for payment in cash, or via wire transfers or prepaid money cards,” adds Hyerczyk.”Use a credit card on trusted sites only and beware of any unnecessary questions regarding personal information.”

With emotions running high, you can easily get scammed on World Series tickets. Here's how to protect yourself.

especially if you don't have a premium seat. but many still go if it gets them away from the shrew for a few hours. real men treasure those hours especially when now they don't have to go visit "her" mother on a sunday.

I occasionally put $10 in a lottery in work and they give away pairs of tickets to all regular season and playoff games ($20) to the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers. They're all great seats, box seats at the 40 for the Eagles, a dozen rows behind the Flyers bench and a Diamond Club seats for the Phils behind the plate. I usually win one or two pairs a year, it's a nice perk! All money collected gets donated to charity that benefits employees families when tragedies strike.
