    Delaware APPROVES Sports betting!
    May 12, 2009

    Senate OKs sports betting

    Bill ready for governor's signature

The state Senate passed the sports betting bill today, sending the legislation to the governor for his signature and removing all hurdles to make the proposal law.

The Senate voted 17 - 2, after less than an hour of debate.

Sens. Thurman Adams, D-Bridgeville, and Gary Simpson, R-Milford, did not vote. Both are on the board of directors for the State Fair, which owns a majority share of Harrington Raceway and Casino.

Joe Rogalsky, spokesman for Gov. Jack Markell, said he didn't know when the bill would be signed into law.

Not necessarily true. The Delaware Supreme Court will rule whether it is constitutional to accept wagers on single games when/if it becomes law.

I highly doubt it will ever be real sports betting. I say it goes no further than parlay cards.

Agreed JJ. You guys can also go to Montana if you want to play parlay cards THAT badly.

Markell has been pushing for his sports betting bill to pass through the Delaware House and Senate quickly, so the state could be ready for action by the NFL season. "That's when we expect most of the betting activity to take place," Markell said earlier this year.
He's hoping to do more than offer up parlays, too. The governor has already asked the State Supreme Court to rule whether or not head-to-head betting is legal in the state. The Court declined to rule until after the bill had become law.

why would they push anything other than a clone of what Las Vegas has if they want to attract any attention with this? Anything else is just a ripoff for the players, except if they put out the parley cards for football on tuesday and the lines stay static..

Parlay cards are cards where you have to play at least 2 teams on a play. The odds are fixed on said play. No betting one team cards.

Vegas turned their desert into a theme park

Delaware could turn their swamp, into a beach resort

Always a chance they will get straight up JJ, I wonder if it will be 2 team minimum or 3? I am used to the Canadian version as I lived in Niagara Falls NY growing up. I generally go to ocean city MD which is 30 min south of delaware beach areas but now will prob stay in Delaware so I can play these whether it is parlay cards or straight up

Just read they are only going to have it at the 3 racinos (race track/casinos) to start at least and should be getting table games as well whereas now its just slots and horses (live and simulcast) Closest racino in Deleware to me is Harrington which is a harness track that I love to bet and is only 105 miles away so under a 2 hr drive

If this catches on a lot of Sportsbooks will be losing a lot of money. Delaware is going to become a very "RICH" state. And I wouldn't be surprised to see this eventually spread. States will see how easy and profitable it is, and the cherry has officially been popped.

on many levels, the legalization of sports betting will be the best thing for the industry and the DE legislation is earth-shattering. Crawl before you walk before you run. DE SB related rev'll be through the roof. As long as that rev is appropriately distributed across state programs for social services and rehabilitation programs .. this'll be crazy win/win. within 3 years DE racetracks'll be Reno east.

legalese aside, i find JJ's overly negative reaction to this interesting. cause, of course the legalization of sports bettign in DE (parlay cards or not) .. means that the writing is on the wall for the off-shore shadiness; ripping off people with un-regulated BS; it also means that paid posting sites and clowns like JJ will be ... out of work. writing's on the wall son. be it 1 year or 3, the writing's on the wall.

I for one ... couldn't be happier. Bring this on-shore and tax it, cause it's really no different than trading stocks/commodities. I love the DE move.
