Stayed there twice. Great hotel, casino in house. If you have kids, they will love the full blown aquarium. Outdoor pools with a monster slide that tubes through a shark tank was cool too. You can taxi/walk right across the bridge into town also. John Bull jewlers is the largest Rolex dealer in the Bahamas. Hope this helps.
Great vacation, certainly not for the budget minded. A calm ocean so bring googles. Don't buy cigars from the beach hounds, they are fake Cubans. Make sure you book everything you want in advance such as riding the dolphins or you will find them sold out. We did the get in the water with the dolphins because we have 1 kid who was to young to ride. Lastly, they tell you to keep your feet up on the lazy river ride, which is anything but lazy, do it. One in my group had a bit of a hamburger foot for failing to heed that warning. There are exactly 3 very cool water park slides or maybe 4. Get there right after breakfast to avoid the 15 minute plus lines.
I go there 3 or 4 times a year. Awesome spot but like RoyBacon said, not for the budget minded. They charge a lot of WTF resort charges that I have no idea what they are for. Ask for a casino rate which will be a lot cheaper even if you're not a big player. You're going to have to bet fairly high in order to get everything comped. It does get cold during the winter so that would be a bummer as far as the pools/beach. I'd avoid November - March because of the cold. We love the water park, you can spend days just chilling by the many pools or riding the lazy river over and over again. The kids club is awesome. You can drop the little one's off while you gamble and it's totally safe. Kids love that club and don't ever want to leave. Resort food is also expensive. I know a lot of people on the island so I rent a car and drive in the city where you can find cheap food but I wouldn't recommend most tourist to do because of crime. I would keep to Paradise Island and downtown Bay Street. Restaurants in Nassau will be cheaper than the resorts on PI.
Some of the nicer restaurant must sees are the Poop deck right across the bridge, Montagu Gardens, Graycliffe, Lukka Kairi and Oh Andros. You also want to go to the Fish Fry (Arawak Key) which is a little strip of local shacks that serve fresh food. The daquiri shack serves great drinks if you like em sweet.
Nassau, like most islands are becoming more and more a family, couples destination. You pretty much need to bring your own sand to the beach (your wife or girlfriend) as you don't see a lot of single women or woman in groups on most islands anymore, except in the summer.
They also have a sportsbook. You can win as much as you want and the casino will not report it to the IRS.
Let me say again that it's not cheap (think Vegas on a busy weekend but every day) or Hawaii. Everything has to be brought into the island. You don't pay sales tax which helps some but it's still one of the more expensive destinations. I love the direct flight from Houston and I love caribbean food, so I go as much as possible. I love to scuba and you won't find clearer water anywhere short of Asia.
Thanks all! Sounds like a great place. Does anyone know if there is a poker room? Based on what I have found there is no poker room just table poker games. Again, thanks for all the detailed reviews and tips!!
We were looking at going to Atlantis in the Bahamas. Has anyone been there? Thoughts?
Thanks!
as of late, everything about atlantis takes forever, customer service wise..... stayed at harbourside across the way in a vrbo condo for half the price and tenx the amenities.....

there is no atlantis poker room
i found a local game just east of atlantis, in the shoppin center.....
i was trippin balls b/c they had "real" fruity fortune and pirates revenge slots in that room....
locals threw me out after i schooled em for 500-600 playin' holdem.... almost got stabbed and/or my ass kicked.....
^It use to be the spot years ago but most islands have become more couple destinations. The best time to go single is 4th of July week or the summer months June, July and August. A lot of single woman come over on cruise ships but are only in town for a few hours or a day at most. There's a lot of working woman that come up from Brazil, Argentina, Cuba that are fine as hell but you're going to pay.
Vegas has also become very couples oriented but you have a lot of local woman to choose from too, although a lot of them are working as well. My diamond in the rough is Vancouver. A lot of single pretty woman that are very easy to talk to and are not hung up about sex. southern California, Phoenix and the DC area are good too.
my wife was bustin' my balls for "lookin' at all the hookers" when we rolled thru bellagio one night..... she said "quit lookin at all the f'n hookers".....
i said, "well penetrate, take my hand and guide me thru this mother fukker, cause i'm gonna have to shut my f'n eyes not to see hookers" there were so many of the hos around.....
everywhere you looked, hot-ass hos......
there were a few that rolled into atlantis.... we had more of a problem with swingers hittin us up than with hookers.....
by comparison, atlantis is 100x less hookerized than vegas......
Wasn't this the resort of choice for Pokerstars tournaments back in the day? I have a friend who used to play some of these live tournaments through online satellites and spoke highly of pretty much every hotel/casino that Stars chose to run their events.
