#37JJ, I wrote a book on becoming a bookieComment -
#38did this guy really post this??Comment -
#40A few good places to pick up clients or just exploitable people with whom to prop bet are country clubs/golf courses, high stakes poker games/casinos, or bars. Good places to establish large clientele pools are large, well paying factories where you have an "in", social clubs (fraternities, rotary club, alumini groups), or possibly asborb clients from well established bookies who may be retiring or scaling back. Also if you get party favors from a well established network, the gambling possibilites within that network could be some of the most lucrative you ever encounter.Comment -
#411 build up atleast 250k starting
2 hire a professional web designer
3 move to CR
lines are easy, just copy pinnacle and 5dimes
***most importantly DO IT NOW before the major books get even bigger and more popularComment -
#42The key is finding guys who want to bet on games, but don't have up front $$$, you book or place their bets, and collect or pay when they reach their #, say plus or minus $300.Comment -
#43memorize this and use for collection calls, "how much?...eight eighty...fukkin firm...well that's the fukkin price."Comment -
#44Serious Question: what's going to stop the oddsmakers from the bigger books creating accounts and raping you blind?
Eh... if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. If I'd do, I'd limit it to the squares at work, the dumb frat brothers, and relatives. I think opening it to strangers is suicide.Comment -
#45Actually raping the squares in NFL office pools is $$$. True story: I've won 4 NFL pools in my life. It's not that hard, especially if the people in the pool have real jobs. One was over $500 pot.
But I live in Vegas now, I have a feeling pools here are a lot sharper.Comment -
#46The best way to do this is go with a Pay Per Head provider... unlike some of the suggestions to move to Costa Rica and change your name. If you just pay a service provider online, typically $5 - $25/week for each player you have, they handle everything except money exchanging. They will take care of your lines, they have call centers, its a no brainer.
I've used a bunch in my time, I current recommend payperhead.com if you want the best price, or else AceSportsbook.com's per-head service if you want the best customer support and customizability.
Finding guys is easy. Everyone bets. The key is simple: when somebody wins, you pay them immediately. Don't go try to collect from one guy to pay another... wrong way to do it. You pay the winners immediately and fully, then that just feeds their rush. They will give it all back to you in no time, AND they will tell all their gambling friends that you actually pay (the BIGGEST problem players deal with is not getting paid).Comment -

I use a local from time to time but he scares the beejesus out of me. I always pay up, but he alludes from time to time what may happen if I don't, and then he has this sly smile...Comment -
#49Sorry if it sounded like that, my only affiliation with either site is I am a current customer of both. I realize the meat of this conversation was several years old, but I am interested in this topic and I've had this conversation with people before, so I thought it might be helpful information for others.Comment -

#52just bring in customers to your local, I get comission off whoever I bring (% of their losses). so much easier and I get paid when I go pick up my winnings.Comment -
#53Thanks men for all your suggestions
I hear it is not easy

#54This is how I've been making my living for years: I have 3 close friends I've known for 38 years, they all make 6 figures & love to gamble. They know I quote my lines from Bookmaker.eu, so they can check out the live lines whenever they want. Then I place their bets at either DSI or BetIslands, whoever has the better price. I make money from: reload bonuses, loyalty points turned into cash, & arbitrage cash from the better lines I receive from DSI & BI. With the free half pt from BI I get some lucky & big paydays on occasion, when my clients bet pushes on the Bookmaker line but I win by the hook on the BI line. The key is having close trustworthy friends with moderate to high income, we settle up at least once a month. I never have to worry about getting stiffed from my close friends, but don't accept strangers for this reason. I'm not technically a bookie, since I lay off their bets. But unlike a bookie I have very little risk, as I only deal with reputable sportsbook & close friends who both always pay.Comment -
#55Credit... in these times... asking for trouble. Everyones a stiff now, even proud of it. They dont even give a shit about credit ratings, to busy walking from all their underwater mortgages and over extended CCs. I wouldnt give a guy a dime let alone a nickel on the arm unless I knew him real good...Comment -

Payperhead.com advertises themselves at $5 per head. If you are going for cheap, you can find a ton of sites that do pph for almost nothing. I went that way for a long time moving between cheap sites, but in my experience, most of them are small mom-and-pop operations and have TONS of problems. If you want to go for the cheapest price, at least go with a big reputable company like payperhead.
Ace I found much later when I was willing to pay a little more for better service and fewer headaches. I pay $15/head there and have a dedicated account rep and have had zero problems.
But if you are just talking in general, you can get good PPH for $10-20/head.Comment -

#59As with any other business venture you need to approach it like it is a business if you are serious about making a living out of it. This means you need to have some monetary investment up-front, if for nothing else then to cover a down week. If this is just something on the side, then maybe you can get away with just doing it half-way (just limit the bets you take), but plenty of people have made serious livings this way. Do your research on what is involved with starting your own local book, you don't want to blow yourself up with the first few large bets hitting and putting you out of business, or in hiding. Learn how to limit your exposure and make the money from the vig. Definitely don't get into this business if you are a gambler yourself, that's a recipe for disaster. At least don't be gambling along with the players you are taking bets from as that can lead to disaster. Definitely set yourself up with a per head provider, it's the quickest and easiest way to setup a business, keep your lines under control and manage all aspects of your business. You can be up-and-running in a couple of days and your players will be happy with all of the betting options this way. You just have to be prepared for managing the money in and money out.Comment -

#63I have seen JJ gold referenced always in a very positive light a dozen times in my short time at SBR. Sounds like from reading this post he has undergone a transformation the last seven years. Can anyone give me a cliffs on jjgold?Comment -
#64JJ is a legend. You don't need to know anything else.Comment -
#65
Well I don't even NEED to know that much, was just curious about the evolution of JJ. He is spoken of in such glowing terms, your legend comment for example. Seems a LONG LONG way from posting "how do you become a bookie?" just six years ago. Probably a very interesting story.Comment
