To be honest, it didn't seem like ESPN had so many options yesterday for feature table. They had Jamie Gold at the 2nd table. They know she's a typical whiny lesbian bitch. Plus, Schwartz and Baumann were there, so it was probably a decent table for how weak the event starts. I like when that crazy old man said he would show what he had and folded.

I also thought it was kind of over dramatic. Baumann either has A7 of hearts or quad 7s. Halfway through the first level when you have guys like that old man dying to give away chips and Selbst put in 60 percent of her chips, I would strongly weight her range to quads. She may even have just called with A7 despite what she says.

I was watching with my wife and I told her Selbst would bet about 9500 into the 14k. She bet 16200. I guess wanted it to look bluffy. Really hard to get away from it at that point, even against Baumann. I think she would have had around 20k left after she put in 23k. For someone who needs chips to be effective, that's a big hole. The super over aggressive players usually don't do so well in the main event, it's more set up for players who can manage pots and navigate the soft field.

Yes the WSOP is set up that way..very true! Which make her play even more dumb. Even if you don't know gaielle, you know she plays cautiously but when she got it. She got it!!!!!

Bet size on river should be smaller. When Gaelle goes all-in, she would have had the information she needed. Could have (possibly) laid it down then.

Chucky, you could even question the turn when she check raised. Just building a huge pot out of position against someone who has had success in the event so deep and so early in a field with a lot of weak players. If she just bets Baumann almost for sure smooth calls and maybe she can bet/call on the river and still have chips. It goes back to her overall strategy for the event. I guess its a double edge sword because playing that way has worked out well for her.

Jay, I don't think it's so much that people are saying she SHOULD have folded the AA. She COULD have.

If NLHEm is a game of accumulated information, think about how much info Selbst garnered by the River. Baumann called a PF-raise of 400. By the river...she was betting 36k! 99/1 Bet ratio. That means she discovered plutonium.

If the hand was against anyone but Baumann or Schwartz at her table, it would have been a nonstory. They both are only putting it all in with the nuts that early. The rest of the table could have had anything. Some idiot said Vanessa had a flush when she was tanking, asking everyone what she had and making a show. So yeah, the rest of the table it's a snapcall.

This is one of those hands that's going to be discussed forever. By definition, Nuts vs 2nd-nuts is a cooler hand. Hard (or impossible) to get away from.

Think about how the hand played out on Turn/River. And also consider the fact that both players are pros, not amateurs.

On the flop, this had potential to be a pretty modest pot-size. Selbst check-raises + gets called. At that point, warning bells have to be going off in Selbst's head. Baumann called a sizable chk/raise. What RANGE of hands does Baumann have?

* IMHO, Baumann has to have Boat+. What Non-boats does she call with?

The chk/raise has to send msg that Flush is no good. What about 7x hand like 87(suited)?

* On River, consider Selbst bet-size. There's a 25% rule in tournament poker. Meaning, if u bet, size she either be max of 25% (stack), or u just go All-in. Rationale is that if u go All-in, at least u bring a lot of Fold Equity w/ that move. If you bet > 25% stack, you're going to feel pot-committed.

Trinity mentions 9k as bet size. I agree, that was the proper bet size. You get called by smaller boats. Does 7x call?

If Selbst had bet 9k and Baumann had come over top w/ 36k...I really think Selbst could have found a fold. She knows Baumann is an accomplished player (w/ a healthy rack). At that point she might think the only holding that does that is 77.

Selbst's speech-play at end was pretty telling, imho. When she walked thru the possible combinations, she pretty much knew she was dead. Even A7(hearts) was a pretty feeble attempt at justifying the Call.

Again, I'm NOT saying many could fold. Just saying that she could have.

Ya'll sound smart as hell! Selbst played the hand right. flop was three clubs which easily could be Baumann's range. After that, she could have a set or be bluffing. I'd also have put her on a A7. These are pro's with million dollar bank rolls so they're not afraid of busting like the majority playing with savings. It's easy to act like pro's since we see all the cards, but no player in their right mind is folding.Unless you're Phil Hellmuth..
