1985: This was not a fair fight. The Patriots were not even a hiccup for the Bears.

The Bears were an awesome team. They are worthy of mention as the best single-season team ever.

Specifically, the Bear defense was filled with star players. They brought the pain against opponents.

70's music was very special and innovative. Every musician was high as kite off LSD and other hard drugs and they did create some great original music.

80's was bubble gum music but I liked it anyways.

Homie, of course, it's opinion. If you want to see a GREAT sports-card collection, think about 1969 Topps Basketball. The Tall Boys were produced after an 8-year absence (back to 1961 Fleer).

One checklist, 55 of the 99 cards were rookies. You talk about a list of great rookie cards! Start with Alcindor...but it's a great list of Hall of Famers.

Laker, you're right. The 1980s were great.

Some time ago, you made a comment that you thought MESSIER was the best hockey player you've ever seen. That would imply that Mess > Gretzky.

That's one hell of an argument. It's clear that Gretzky was the best ever playmaker and attacking player. Are you saying that you thought Messier was the most-balanced...after you add in toughness, leadership, presence etc?

Horse, I won't opine upon the politics. Reagan was a mountain of a man.

Check out Reagan's call to Tom Flores after the Raider win in 1983:

Agenda, great post. Per usual. A few things:

                                                  1) Read Jerry Kramer's INSTANT REPLAY.
...Very honest account of playing in the NFL in the 1960s. It wasn't big money. Negotiating a $500 signing bonus was about it.
...Most of the players had an off-season job as something like an Insurance Salesman.
...Hornung/Taylor were MUCH better RBs than Grabowski/Anderson. But Grab/Andy came into the league at the right time. With bidding from TWO LEAGUES, Grab/Andy made pretty good $$ (for the time).

You talk about the money. Two key financial decisions from that era:
*1965: Coinage Act of 1965. Johnson takes the silver out of the coins. 40% Half Dollars, 1965-69. Gone by 1970.
*1971: Nixon takes the US off the Gold Standard. Enter: Fiat Currency Era.

Good stuff, Billy. The old shrink-flation routine.

I wonder why the inflation would look so different:

Sports in general was way better and more competitive back in the 80's. As mentioned above we had the showtime Lakers with Magic Johnson, Celtics with Larry Bird, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, John Mcenroe, Lawrence Tayler, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretsky, etc in the 80's and early 90's.

Those IMO were the best of times in sports all around.

Movie comedies peaked in the 80's as well. We didn't have to deal with the woke, cancel culture and racial egg shell walking back then.
