#1491985: This was not a fair fight. The Patriots were not even a hiccup for the Bears.
The Bears were an awesome team. They are worthy of mention as the best single-season team ever.
Specifically, the Bear defense was filled with star players. They brought the pain against opponents.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
#150Always interesting to see all the ex-SBR guys who posted in a "revived" thread! Like a trip down memory lane...Comment -

#152Damn... what a thread with some posters from the past. Good times.

One checklist, 55 of the 99 cards were rookies. You talk about a list of great rookie cards! Start with Alcindor...but it's a great list of Hall of Famers.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
#157Laker, you're right. The 1980s were great.
Some time ago, you made a comment that you thought MESSIER was the best hockey player you've ever seen. That would imply that Mess > Gretzky.
That's one hell of an argument. It's clear that Gretzky was the best ever playmaker and attacking player. Are you saying that you thought Messier was the most-balanced...after you add in toughness, leadership, presence etc?Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

I liked virtually ALL the music from the 80's. It didn't matter of it was Rock, Rap, New Wave, Hair Metal, bubble gum, Punk, Top 40, or all of the above. I liked virtually all of it. Especially the One Hit Wonders!
Anyone remember this gem?

1) Read Jerry Kramer's INSTANT REPLAY.
...Very honest account of playing in the NFL in the 1960s. It wasn't big money. Negotiating a $500 signing bonus was about it.
...Most of the players had an off-season job as something like an Insurance Salesman.
...Hornung/Taylor were MUCH better RBs than Grabowski/Anderson. But Grab/Andy came into the league at the right time. With bidding from TWO LEAGUES, Grab/Andy made pretty good $$ (for the time).
You talk about the money. Two key financial decisions from that era:
*1965: Coinage Act of 1965. Johnson takes the silver out of the coins. 40% Half Dollars, 1965-69. Gone by 1970.
*1971: Nixon takes the US off the Gold Standard. Enter: Fiat Currency Era.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#166well lived through 60's 70's 80's 90's
long ago in some thing online where we earned lil cash everything changed when 60's ended
wow gas prcies 35 cents per gal then bam my 2 nd year driving boom rocketed to .85 per gal soon the 3 digit digtal gas pump had to be removed now we have 4 digits and 5 for huge tanks that can cost over $100 to fill up
the 60's a dollar went far omg a full sized cheesteak at corner restaurant was only $2 even in 70's today forgettabouttit some places $15 and it's only 9 " roll
today prices compared to what $20 bought in supermarket is a tragedy $20 back in 60's filled your shopping cart remember walking with mom because she didnt have a car
as far as music today no true R & R bands none like led zep /ac/dc aerosmith stones beatles ...... these werre GODS the drummers the guiraist bass players vocals today it's all single artists Lady ga ga ; Pink ; Bruno Mars; one band great vocals is imagine dragons but they havent done anything lately like thier 1st big hit Natural
i want bands that we had in 70's 80's 90's 4 or more in band
i belive that type of band is gone today like zeppilns song bring it on home the mild vocal start with harmonica the it explodes and you scream ROCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK and ROLLLLLLLLLL babyComment -

I wonder why the inflation would look so different:
*Up to 1970.
*1971 to now.
Think about it.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
#168Sports in general was way better and more competitive back in the 80's. As mentioned above we had the showtime Lakers with Magic Johnson, Celtics with Larry Bird, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, John Mcenroe, Lawrence Tayler, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretsky, etc in the 80's and early 90's.
Those IMO were the best of times in sports all around.Comment -

#170Movie comedies peaked in the 80's as well. We didn't have to deal with the woke, cancel culture and racial egg shell walking back then.Comment -
#171A total Blurr of a decade outside Greyhound Racing. Bet hounds and fball and quite frankly anything that moved. Not sure how much I donated to Jai Lai cause I had the cash and women oh wow..., Probably the decade that defined my life. Easily wagered a MIL dollars. Boy those were the days. Lame now.Comment -

The sports, music, love, heartbreak, Great movies, most of high school, and SEX I will never forget.
add on: General admission Rock Concerts.
I thought back then that I would be getting that beautiful poo tang from different women for the rest of my life.
Like I said 1980 thru 1989 best 10 years of my life, probably extend a little 1989 thru 1992Last edited by jackpot269; 04-21-23, 10:54 AM.Comment -
