I think to be a successful bettor long-term you have to be able to win betting against the market maker, professional bettors, and the public. You can't just bet against the public in sports where the public actually moves the market like the NFL, and if you are confident in your play and no facts have changed, you have to be confident in your handicap. If its a big line move because of actual news that's a different situation, but if the line move is that big there's likely no chance to buy out without risking being middle anyways.

This is not true or maybe I mis-read it. When you say "you can't just bet" maybe you mean as some blanket system.

Otherwise, if the "public" actually manages to move the line in a sport like the NFL, then it will become "inefficient."

That is exactly when sharp bettors exploit the line and bet against the public. They are getting a good number.

You seem to give the public a lot of credit when it comes to moving an NFL market, it's not warranted.

The bigger money and the books move the market and they know who they are.
