Because they will be fine if Westbrook scores 60 points in 3 quarters and breaks his leg in the 4th.

His average PPG that counts for this tournament (as per rules SBRDrew posted) will be 60 points. Noone who did not pick Westbrook in this scenario has a chance of scoring a prize.

The person with the highest SCORING team average will be the winner. The contest finishes the day before Thanksgiving on Nov 21st. (We include Nov 21st games).
We will add up your NBA teams scoring average to determine the winner.
Ex: your team averages are 32.2,16,8,15.0, 22.0, and 39.0 points ...this equals 125 points for the team

One last question. What's 'AVERAGE'? How is it calculated? How are players who sit out games accounted for? Does a total number of points scored matter? What if a player like Westbrook who just had a surgery, plays 2 games with a very high PPG but then doesn't play until January because he needs extra time to heal an injury? Does his 60 point PPG (hypothetical) count for everyone who picked him? Shouldn't there be a minimum number of minutes/games a player must play for his PPG to count?

To simplify things, shouldn't TOTAL points be counted for each team rather than averages?



Example:

Curry plays 48 minutes in every game and scores on average 30 points, for a total of 18x30 = 540 points.

Westbrook plays 36 minutes in every game and scores on average 30 points, for a total of 16x35 = 576 points.

Lebron James plays 30 minutes in 10 games and sits out the rest (injury/rest/whatever), scoring on average 40 points a game, for a total of 10x40 = 400 points.

Curry's averages:
30 PPG, 22.5 points per 36 minutes

Westbrook's averages:
30 PPG, 30 points per 36 minutes

Lebron's averages:
40 PPG, 48 points per 36 minutes (but the lowest total points of the three players in the example)

Are there rules about the player's position? I'm seeing people who have James Harden listed as their PG and others as their SG. Do you just pick any 5 players and list them as whatever position or is there some rule about them being inserted only as their listed position?

Can any mods clarify this? I already submitted my lineup, but still a bit confused.

So if a player I pick only plays 50% of his team's games (Houston plays 15 games including Nov. 21, 76ers play 19 games etc) then I get 0.00 for that player's total?

I think as long as you don't pick Curry to play PF or C, you'll be fine. There's really no way to tell if a player is a SG/PG/point forward/combo guard in many situations so I don't see it being strictly enforced. Unless you really push it.

He's cleared and he'll start at GSW.

Not aware? 'Most' should do a better job researching before submitting their picks. Tomorrow will be exactly 4 weeks since the surgery, and it was a preemptive arthroscopy, not an emergency. It's still unclear if he'll be impacted at all. He could be better, it's just not very likely he'll be better immediately but for the season-long stats I think it's a net positive that he did this surgery and had 4 weeks to heal (which is a normal recovery timetable) before the season opener.

Wasn't explained in the best of terms. Rules state SCORING but doesn't specify what constitutes scoring.

Assuming points scored would be the default but many sites and formats include rebounds, assists, steals, blocks etc.

Would've been helpful and well thought out if the scoring was clearly defined rather than expecting everyone to assume something
