The article is pointless. They aren't counting Canadian viewing numbers, so obviously ratings will dip if you ignore the fan base of one of the teams.
Canadian numbers never count
US viewership down 50%
Not discussing a regional thing here, this is Nation wide
Super teams have wrecked this sport
In previous threads I suggested this would occur, you alienate the MN, Chi, NO, Mem, Ind, Cle, Det, Okc, etc markets by allowing these "super teams" to emerge and destroy the nostalgia of a small market team and their fanbase.
This isn't a knock on Toronto, it's a direct response to indifference of a nation of fans to two teams that will both lose their best players (Kahwi and Giannis) in a year or two, to teams located on either coast.
Fans cant invest emotion in the game anymore
There is no more association of a name w a team (Curry maybe) like there was with Magic, Larry, Michael, Ewing, etc
Their tv contracts are locked in so far to the future it seems to never affect them. Same with NFL.
It's all guaranteed money for the league so I'm not sure if/when it would even have an impact. Like when NFL ratings fell 1-2 years ago, the league actually made more money because the TV deal was like 10 phucking years with increases built into the contract so it didn't really matter.
Silver already said they are looking at moving down start times on West coast games to 6pm local. He also said no James in the playoffs didn't help this year.
Should be, just like the nfl they have done nothing but make the game worse w soft ass rules, soft ass whiny players, and no true legit contender for dubs. I kinda thought they wouldn’t help craptors, I know longer series more revenue but I think dubs/bucks could have potentially gotten huge ratings had bucks ran thru craptors.
I think a ghetto product is not a good sell anymore
Lol ghetto? guys in the league willingly wear cheetah print outfits to the game w/ a cup of Starbucks in hand then wear short shorts on court & flop to get a call.
Why watch NBA playoffs where guys are hugging, smiling and do not care about winning? We also already know the outcome. NHL playoffs is violent, intense and always produces a ton of upsets.

Lebron has started the dominos falling
You should actually blame Kevin Garnett for this. He made it ok for superstars to leave garbage teams and play with other superstars.
The argument has been to COUNT Canadian viewership. You'd get a truer picture of how well the NHL does vs. the NBA, not even bringing into the discussion it's a far more entertaining product.
It's done with other entertainment measurements as well. When movies make their debut and attendance and gross $$$ figures are measured, it's U.S. & CANADA that produce those numbers, not just the U.S.

i like hockey but let's be serious, you can't even tell whether or not a shot goes in, so in a hockey game you see 5 scores (that you never saw)... in an nba game you see 100+ scores.
an nba finals game gets 20 million viewers and an nhl finals game gets 5 million so most of the country doesn't agree with you
Nba is very boring and predicable now.Every time down the court is the same.Run down the court pass the ball around look for the three point shot,or drive to the hoop for a slam dunk or layup and draw the foul. That is it! But at least the aba is still being paid.
