Lebron threatened the NBA with retirement if Davis didn't get traded to Lakers. A lot of Lakers executives didn't want the trade to happen so the comissioner forced them to quit. The Pelicans said they are not trading Davis to Lakers unless they draft Zion. So against all odds the comissioner screwed the Knicks and rigged the draft to keep Lebron out of retirement. The rest is history.

What's so awesome about this is that sportsbooks payout on odds without regard to it being rigged. People who don't believe it's rigged can never win any money. Whereas everyone who does claim its rigged earns a lot. Betting the Pelicans to win were paying out at least 12-1 at quite a few places. If the Knicks or Bulls won, someone would have said it was rigged to help their bigger markets.
If it was Cleveland someone would have said it was rigged as compensation for letting LeBron go to a major market.
If it was the Hornets someone would have said it was rigged to keep Zion in his hometown.
It's like no matter what the results are, those results were rigged by the NBA for their best interest. It's like they may as well make it completely random and it will come out in a way that suits them best.
