Astros 4-1 favorites to win 2020 World Series; Nationals 14-1
Houston Astros fans who saw their team suffer the biggest World Series upset in 29 years have something to look forward to: The Astros, for now, are the favorites to win next year's World Series.

At 4-1, the Astros are the favorites at Caesars Sportsbook to win the 2020 World Series, followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, who are each 5-1, and the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves, who are each 10-1.

Houston fell to the Washington Nationals 6-2 in Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night. The Nationals were nearly 2-1 underdogs to the Astros in the series, making their victory the largest World Series upset since the Cincinnati Reds took down the Oakland Athletics as +260 underdogs in 1990.

The Nationals, who captured the franchise's first World Series, hold the sixth-highest odds to win next year's title at 14-1, along with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs.

Multiple impactful free agents -- including Houston ace Gerrit Cole and Washington starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg and third baseman Anthony Rendon -- could be on the move and shift the 2020 World Series odds this offseason.

Cole, 29, went 20-5 during the regular season with 326 strikeouts. The right-hander struck out nine in a stellar seven-inning performance in Game 5 of the World Series in what might have been his final start with the Astros.

Strasburg went 8⅓ innings and struck out seven in the Nationals' Game 6 victory; Rendon hit a home run in Game 6 and another in Game 7.

Washington was expected to be a contender to begin the season but got off to a disappointing start; in June, the Nationals saw their World Series odds drift to 50-1 at some sportsbooks. They took off after the All-Star break, upset the Dodgers in the National League Division Series and swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS to advance to the franchise's first World Series.

The Philadelphia Phillies enter the offseason at 16-1 to win next year's World Series, followed by the Milwaukee Brewers at 18-1 and the Cardinals at 20-1. The New York Mets are 22-1, and the Minnesota Twins, Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays are each 30-1 at Caesars Sportsbook.

The Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins and Kansas City Royals have the longest odds in 2020 at 1,000-1.

Going to have to work on the pitching staff. Astros are losing Cole, and a few people in the bullpen (Harris, McHugh, and Smith just off the top of my head).

        he is a Texas guy

he might take a discount to stay close to his roots

Califonia UCLA boy. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to the Angels with Maddon.

oh okay he kind of has that Texas look

shame so many players only care about money these days

maybe the Blue Jays will sign him, with that line-up they could be dangerous with a guy like Cole

I wish the Astros could sign him, but they are getting close to the luxury tax now, and already have $30+ million attached to Verlander and $20+ million to Greinke for the next 2 years. Also will have to make a decision on Springer soon. He's a UFA in 2021.

Astros were 1/7 to win the World Series two days ago. That didn’t work out too well.

At least Cole is rested for Game 8 tonight, or for opening day with the 2020 Yankees or Angles.

It's a possibility. It's just been the majority of the news I've been reading is that Moreno is ready to open the pocket book for him. I could see Preller going for him just to try and keep his job after 2020.

Angels were my 1st thought after signing madden as well, since I’ve just thought pads been willing to spend and they could really use a proven winner to go with their young arms.

If Strasburg opts out, he could be a possibility for the Padres. He's a San Diego boy.

Don’t see any chance Cole stays for the reasons KLC has already pointed out. No clue on stras. Think better chance he stays put than Cole.

That much more reasonable. And 50 bucks pays 5k not a few hundred like on Stros! Lol. You gotta believe if madden went there they prepared to spend money on pitching! After free agency I’d assume their odds take a dive.

Pads could be another solid one to get early, they have proven willing to spend, they bring in a ace type vet to lead young staff they could easily make playoffs.

Reds too but no hurry with them cause they ain’t gonna go out and spend so their odds not going anywhere,, they have put together a excellent pitching staff tho.

Gerrit Cole, a pending free agent, wasted no time distancing himself from the Houston Astros Wednesday night as the star pitcher donned a baseball cap bearing his agent's logo and telling reporters he was "not an employee of the team."

When he spoke to reporters after the game, Cole told an Astros spokesperson, "I'm not an employee of the team," before adding "I guess as a representative of myself..."

He subsequently told reporters he had made "a lot of good friendships" during his two years in Houston.

“Obviously l learned a lot about pitching from my teammates. From the pitching coaches and pitching staff. I learned a lot more about the game from [manager] A.J. [Hinch]. And it was just a pleasure to play in the city of Houston," he said.

He also donned a hat bearing the logo of Boras Corp, the company of superagent Scott Boras.

Interesting he said was not is suggests he's gone, I don't see Houston offering a 6 year deal and someone will be desperate enough to do that.

Ive assumed it was a forgone conclusion Cole was out the minute they traded for grienke, no way you can take on that salary plus the others they paying or fixing to have too and pay Cole.,

I was wondering what hat that was

                                                everybody always has an agenda

I’m surprised he wasn’t wearing a “Gerrit Cole brand” hat like every other athlete

Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers should be the favorites. Got to go with the teams that spend the money.

The Astros will decline next year with no Cole and an aging Verlander and Grienke. The expectation was top prospect Forrest Whitley would backfill Cole. However he had a horrible year in the minors this year.

                                                      maybe not

Lets not forget how talented of hitters they are

and the fact that many of them under performed this season

Bregman, Alltuve, Correa, and Alvarez are all capable of better seasons

but yes if Gerrit Cole leaves they need to pick up 2 solid starters to replace him.

There little to no point playin those teams anytime soon imo, wait and hope they start bad or hit a rough patch and you get a better number or just wait and hammer individual games once they make the playoffs. Never saw the point typing up money on something that doesn’t give you significant returns on small amounts???

so many things can happen during a mlb season there no way I’d bet any low odds team for the amount it take to be worth it. Just doesn’t make sense to me.
