Penn State just gave James Franklin a new deal thru 2025

A preseason top 10 selection, Penn State lost its first five games for the first time in school history before steadying the ship and finishing 4-5.

The way coach James Franklin sees it, a world filled with video conferences and surgical masks was at least partially to blame. It surely didn’t agree with his coaching style.

“I want to connect with people,” Franklin said at Big Ten preseason media day Thursday in Indianapolis. “I want to be face to face. I want to embrace. I want to hug. I want to scream. I want to yell. That’s who I am. And having every meeting up until Game 5 over Zoom and not in person and with a mask on, when people can’t see the emotion and the connection and the love that I have for them, had an effect.”

He’s overrated, the only reason he won anything was sequin Barkley was one of the best running backs in the history of college football. Without Barkley he would have been fired several years ago. Penn State likely wants to be seen as promoting diversity too, but any fool would have won with Barkley running for 200 years a game.

Franklin is a better coach than recruiter at Penn State. He has beat all of the top teams in the conference since he has been there and had never had the most talented team in the conference. If Franklin EVER gets decent quarterback play he will be dangerous. He needs to leave the little tiny somewhat dual threat quarterbacks alone and get someone in there who can throw the ball the best versus using their legs scrambling and getting hurt. If he does that PSU is playoff bound soon. He will never have more studs than OSU but he will beat them at home occasionally.
