    Grocery store employee tests positive
    Hi Everyone,

The Covid-19 situation continues to evolve rapidly with increased warnings from government about the risk to our personal communities. For us, that community includes 2,500 stores and 190,000 colleagues serving millions of Canadians. There are all kinds of rumours flying around about cases in our stores and that is likely to continue. My commitment to you is to use this and other local communication channels to give you the latest and most accurate information about what is happening in our stores.

Today, we have our first confirmed case, in a single store, where a colleague from our Real Canadian Superstore on Gibb St. in Oshawa, Ontario, tested positive. As you'd expect, we are staying close to the situation and to his family.

    These are our steps:
We will immediately work with local public health authorities to investigate the colleague's recent shifts and direct contacts. To keep our stores safe, we will partner with public health to identify and support any colleagues who should self-isolate. They will be instructed to stay home and we will pay them in full.
Our teams will deep-clean the store based on the advice of public health, over and above our new, daily cleaning protocols put in place at the start of COVID-19.
We will close immediately if we are informed of a colleague testing positive. We know communities consider us an essential service right now, but we ask for your patience as we will remain closed for as long as it takes to deep-clean, or on the advice of public health.
We will be completely transparent by communicating directly to customers who have recently shopped in the affected store. For example, in the current case, we have talked to all colleagues, posted a notice to local social media, and emailed thousands of individual customers who used their PC Optimum account in that particular location.
At this time, health authorities continue to assure us that the risk of grocery shopping is low, but we must all take care. We're counting on you to help by giving our colleagues and each other lots of space.

This is in Canada close to me. Be careful getting your groceries

just look at the faces of the people working as checkout clerks. they do not want to be there. they are exposed all day to hordes of people and of course an infected one is bound to pass through their line. shoppers themselves would have to be pretty unlucky to come in contact with a carrier but even that is possible. the employees have no chance since they are in contact with everyone who comes in.

                  Yes, indeed.

A few had masks on but they probably wear the same mask all day, everyday. A mask alone will not keep them completely protected.

feel you there. instacart delivers from the meat market I usually buy from.. everything else I get on amazon fresh or their Whole Foods platform. just hard to get open delivery windows.

This is an airborne virus. We are getting all bent out of shape over catching it on a cereal box. It is highly unlikely you will catch this from surface contact. It's through the air that people are getting this. Directly talking facing someone that has it, someone breathing or coughing in your direction. Masks are a great protection but no one in the US seems to like to wear masks?

Who does that? Just like people talking about catching it on a door knob. It would literally take someone coughing up phlegm on their hands, then immediately wiping it on a door knob. Then you would have to wipe the wet knob and then lick your fingers. Who does that? By the time 100 people rub that door knob, the virus is reduced across many people into such a low amount that it wouldn't matter. This is not some mutant alien like in the movie the Blob, where it keeps growing on a door knob into some giant mass.

So someone that is sick touches a cereal box. Why would you assume the box to have the virus? Did they cough on their hands first? Did they lick their fingers first? Even if they did, think about how hard it would take for it to transfer from their fingers to the box. Then how hard it would be for you to touch the exact same spot on the box. Think about how dilute that small amount of the virus has become. Use simple math and surface areas and it is very difficult to spread it by contact. Compare that to someone talking in your face, or you kissing someone. This is a respiratory illness. Respire...

There has been 400,000 cases globally and I have not heard of ONE case that was transmitted by contact.

The process is bad though. RIGHT now the wait for delivery is 7-10 days. If you order pickup at store its 4 days minimum.
