It's going to be a long way back for Vegas. No doubt.

How the hell do they burn millions a day doing nothing? Especially MGM. 15 mil a day is faster than literally setting their cash reserves on fire.

I'm not buying the 15m a day either. Casinos looking for some bailout money.

This was obviously so that they did not have to pay the majority of employees benefits. Casino wages have been stagnant over the past 15 years and as the casinos gouge the patrons, all of the profits funnel to the bottom line and do not trickle down to those who deserve it and need it. Vegas is my favourite city on the planet, it is hard to feel sorry for the corporations that run the city.
                    great points

i would add that those "corporations" aren't just top executives, i have a large stake in wynn/penn so it's not quite as easy as saying punish those corporations, because then the shareholders/bondholders/etc get punished too

Compared to what other states? I'm from the Midwest and people in Vegas are nice. You wanna talk about trashy states, you ever been to fukkin Mississippi or NJ? Both pure trash. Easily the worst states. Ironically those 3 states have the most well know gambling meccas in the USA. Vegas, AC and Tunica. So that begs the question now, does gambling attract trash or does trash attract gambling?

well why else would a "professional gambler" have to get paid to post nonsense?

300,000 posts at a gambling forum and he hates the gambling capital of the world, embarassing

Clearly, many who've posted in this thread fall into two camps:

                                        1) Those who think Vegas will turn into a dust bowl (or at least a shadow of its former self)

                                        2) Those who think Vegas will survive

For the record, I'm in #2.

Of course, we won't know for six to eighteen months which camp is right...but I've some thoughts as to why I'm bullish on Vegas and why all of us in #2 will sooner or later be vindicated.

Sports betting makes up just a portion of the casinos' income. Those who try and predict Vegas' future based on what they see through this lens are not seeing the larger picture.

Yes, it's increasingly difficult to find places that accept sharp action; however, this applies to offshores as well. This why I spread my wagers between Vegas books and off shores. It's a matter of keeping a low profile and have small income streams from diverse books. And cashing tickets at Vegas is less onerous than playing bit coin hopscotch via off shore.

Well known entertainers have and will continue to headline at Vegas. I doubt many casinos in a smaller market will be able to compete.

When the Raiders move to town, Vegas will have three professional major league sports teams. They already have the Golden Knights, which have a strong following. They also have the Aces (it's in the lowly WNBA but still...).

Vegas has and will continue to attract some of the largest conventions within the U.S. They will continue to innovate on how to attract Joe and Jane Tourist with non-gaming activities.

This, of course, is all contingent on a vaccine eventually becoming a reality.

Make no mistake: some of the most brilliant minds in science WILL develop a vaccine. The incentives are too great. And when this happens, the world will breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Covid-19 will undoubtedly effectuate a paradigm shift. The government will be better prepared for the next epidemic or pandemic. The scientific community will also adapt. It may no longer be considered impolite to not shake hands. People hopefully will practice better hygiene.

There may even be some sort of an identification system. Perhaps a card with one's photo and an insignia which denotes that you've received the most current vaccine. And one displays this card on a lanyard or clipped to a shirt before entering crowded environments.

Obviously, bad actors will attempt to create fraudulent cards. To counter, security can have scanning devices which detect for this, just as they perform a search for weapons. Yes, some may find this inconvenient. However, most people, I suspect, won't mind if they find comfort in knowing that people around them have had their temps tested, card verified, and are not carrying any weapons.

And there will be small to mid-size businesses who lack the resources to perform such rigorous testing to each and every patron. Those who enter such establishments will do so on their own accord.

And let's not forget the major casinos are now run by ruthless but savvy people with share holders to answer to. It's a very safe bet they're having closed-door meetings on how they can adapt, survive, and eventually thrive.

And Vegas should also make stronger efforts to increase non-tourist related industries. Just as an intelligent portfolio should be well diversified (but not over diversified), Vegas, if the collective leadership has half a brain, will learn the painful lessons from recent events. Reno did this with Tesla. I won't be surprised if Vegas now adopts similar tactics.

The choice isn't between a few thousand cases of COVID-19 or our economy running perfectly. "Only" 500k cases and 20k deaths (so far) is the direct result of our current social distancing measures. What would have happened if we didn't do take these precautions? Do you think the economy would have run just swimmingly as millions of people die?

Both are just dust in the wind right now.. I know I haven't placed a bet or deposited a dime on a dozen books that I'm with now since Corona really hit.. Nothing to bet on..

You got Cyber betting and horses.. No thank you.. Online casino play also where you always lose your bank roll in time once you get hooked and keep playing daily. No thank you again!!!

My book balances are collecting dust today. May bet on a political future when I see the odds are good and that's about it right now.

Gambling establishments of any kind are not immune to the Corona shut down..

That's what they do, and they're good at it.
I've always known this and I can proudly say I've never paid for sex in Vegas.
I've only paid for sex once (indirectly), and that was when I married my wife and I'm still paying for sex (indirectly)

                                                                A JIBS VEGAS STORY -

I remember going to Vegas back in the day and a good looking buddy of mine got seriously horny and played hard by a hot hooker at the end of the night, we were all staying in a multi room suite at the Luxor probably 25 years ago.. It was the place to be back then.

Her play was - they were kissing and getting it on in bed and she said, "do you have a condom?" My buddy said, "no don't you have one?" She said, no after he paid her, she then said "I'll be right back as I got to go down to the casino floor room shops and get one". She took the room hotel key card and walked out.. My buddy trusted her like an idiot...

Needless to say she was gone and never to be seen again after that.. My bud was waiting in bed for an hour with a hard on until finally he realized he got played for $300..

My buds and I laughed for days off that one.

"Only" 500k cases and 20k deaths (so far) is the direct result of our current social distancing measures. What would have happened if we didn't do take these precautions? Do you think the economy would have run just swimmingly as millions of people die?

Working girl sits up close to me and takes a couple my chips flirting closely and plays some cards with me. One thing led to another, we went to my room and she immediately shows her hairy puzzy. Oh baby baby baby...actually to hairy for my liking and she's really annoying with her oh baby chit and telling me about her real baby(s) needing money. She's not the sexiest of girls. I found my way to the bathroom to piss and when looking in the mirror, the hall closet mirror was behind which I could see the girl unplugging my phone between beds. Obviously not good. I confronted her and she freaked out. I asked her to leave and she basically attacks me with hugs and tries to stop me from plugging the phone back in. It was a struggle. At this point I was very concerned. Fighting her off I plugged in dialed 0 and asked for security. They came right up, ripped her ass, sort of scolded me and escorted off she went.
