It was poor judgment on your part to start a thread like that while everyone was in a full panic.
As far as the 2nd part of your post. Ok. Deaths will keep happening just like deaths from car accidents, homicides, cancer, heart disease etc etc. what’s your point?Comment -

Be careful believing what they tell you on TV b/c that's not totally true.
Many small businesses are being turned down at step one. Others are not even getting the opportunity to apply.
There will never be enough money for everyone. People will suffer.Comment -

#43How do you define "almost done"? If you mean the very worst will be behind us soon, then yeah. If you mean its back to business as usual, then no.Comment -

#45What you guys don’t understand is the virus is never going away so you really expect us to be locked down until a vaccine is ready??? That is about a year or so....Unreal that a lot of you are OK with the government controlling you.
Fauchi and that surgeon general need to be removed as they offer zero positivity.Comment -
#46I'm so sorry to hear this. I can only imagine how you're feeling right now.
As for your comment LB, I hope you're right but we locked down well before North America and many other parts of the world and we're still getting new cases and deaths daily here. I don't think any of us truly know when this will be over sadly.
it never really even started there.
yesterday they had 1 death and 93 new cases..... for 25 million people!
Australians aren't going back to work yet?Comment -

NO we're not going back to work properly and both my husband and I work in what's deemed essential services ffs. He has to do his outside of the home and I'm fortunate enough to do mine at home. THIS IS WHY OUR COUNTRY ISNT AS FUKKED AS YOURS as we've been doing this for almost a month. We're fukking home-schooling now ffs because if you "can educate from home you must educate home". That's a directive from our State Premier. So now we're all fukkin Dr Seuss, Mary Poppins and Bill Nye the Science Guy rolled into one whilst we acknowledge us parents know shit ass about shit all.
Never even started here... we've copped cruise ships from the US, Europe, Asia, etc. People who thought it was cute to still travel when it was made clear it wasn't safe to, including all of those North American and European idiot backpackers who came in here pretending to be family members of xyz just so they could try to stay here indefinitely. Nah we're not doing ok here Archie and it's pretty shit actually as we've been in isolation for much longer than some of you arrogant cokks thought you needed to be so maybe that's why our numbers now look better. When you guys were crying "hoax" we were watching people die. But yeah, good luck brother!Comment -

sounds like you are not doing ok because of the strict measures, not because of the virus
no one in Australia is complaining that it seems a bit much to keep everyone at home and people losing their jobs and freedom?
over 1 death yesterday?
i'm sure covid19 was like 1500th on the list of top causes of death yesterday there.
seems odd that no on would question that
how many of the 50 total people that have died of covid19 in Australia in a month did you watch die?Last edited by Chi_archie; 04-08-20, 10:10 AM.Comment -

#58Let's do some SBR math.
On March 8th(that's 1 month ago for you non-math guys) there were 213 total confirmed cases in the U.S. with 11 total deaths.
April 7th(1 day ago for you non-math guys) there were over 31 thousand new cases in the U.S. on that day alone along with over 1900 deaths in the U.S. on that day alone.
From the data above... how in the hell could anyone come to the conclusion that it's almost done?
This is not a tornado that is going to be over in an hour... this is not even a blizzard that might last a day or two... this is going to be more like the longest and worst winter any of us have ever seen in our entire lives and it just started a few weeks ago. Is every single day of the winter going to be brutal... NO, let's hope not anyway. But is it going to go away anytime soon? NO. There's going to be lots of ups an downs. There's going to be ebb and flow throughout different regions of the country continuously for the next year or two.
Don't delude yourself into believing something that isn't true just because you really WANT it to be true. This is the exact same reason why most of you lose money betting on sports.
I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy here... but the numbers I posted above are not debatable. Our best chance to get through this with as few lives lost is to live in REALITY and not fantasy. The virus doesn't give a rats ass what you WANT to be true.Last edited by JohnGalt2341; 04-08-20, 10:12 AM.Comment -

We are complaining but we're also realising what all of this negative physical space means (aka social distancing) so we're trying to do our best to deal with and combat it. That's why the dole (Welfare) payments have been doubled to $1100 a fortnight. Companies who turnover less than $50million a year are eligible to pay their employees $1500 a fortnight jobseeker pymt to supplement their loss of income. And so and so on.
But people are still falling sick and dying here. We're waiting to hear back on someone close to us now but we're about 30th down the chain of importance of notification understandably so we'll just sit back patiently. This isn't a good thing no matter what side anyone is on and for anyone who can't be with a loved one at a funeral (at least that's what it is now in Australia) that's such a heart-breaking, life-changing time. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and truly hope none of us go through thatComment -

.
so the virus will never be done, even when we get a vaccine. Just like H1N1 isn't "done" we just get a strain of that in our yearly flu vaccines now.
but for the purposes of when social distancing measures as they stand today. When is that DONE?
when is the decline of new daily cases and hospitalizations (which has started in NYC) resulting in fewer deaths in 2-3 weeks low enough to be done?
that's what i'm looking for answers for. It will be different for every region.Comment -
#65Mate there are HEAPS of people questioning and complaining about the strict measures. Three guys yesterday got $1600 fines each for playing vids together as you're only allowed to socialise with one other person. A chick got a fine for going on her driver's learner's shit with her mum, to get her practice hours up, $1600. A dude copped a fine for trying to go on a mountain bike ride by himself: $1500.

but if Australia comes out of this with less than 500 deaths, and it looks like they will end this year with far below that number, and 1500-3000 die there annually of the flu.
Will people think all that miserableness was worth it?Comment -

I get that most of the degenerates on here are ready to roll the dice bc of their inherit nature and the odds of the disease affecting their personal health, but have some class and patience and shut the fack up in the mean time. This is going to be one of the worst weeks mb the peak. Do you have no relatives or friends you are worried about infecting if you go on with your worthless life? and Maggie, I have some perspective on this. As I just recently suffered a loss too. Not to Covid19 though, I'm also dealing with some other family health problems.
but all I have is time. I'm shut in, not in my home but a family member's and all I really have is time. So lots of communicating on phone, zoom, and text to other family members and friend's of the deceased as we plan how to navigate mourning and lack of typical funeral arrangements in these times.
I don't have sports as a hobby so I've been studying this stuff very closely to keep my mind off of everything else.
For those of us that have been on various forums for a long period of time, its a great place to be with familiar people, even if its arguing and debating curves and peaks instead of batting average and zone defenses.Comment -

This guy has been posting about the virus for a while now
At no point does he mention that anybody he knows has it or is sick from it
He also talks about poker, peloton and edible pot in the same time frame
Then all of a sudden his BEST friend dies from the virus and another is gravely ill
Then its back to posting about other stuff not related to the those illnesses, like watching a movie on edibles
You are quite gullableComment -
#69i've hated this analogy for bigger countries and especially for the US, and our numbers don't come close to giving credence to that question.
but if Australia comes out of this with less than 500 deaths, and it looks like they will end this year with far below that number, and 1500-3000 die there annually of the flu.

Australia is a very pragmatic country and we already realise that we jumped on this much earlier than our other first world contemporaries probably because of our close proximity to China and our massive influx of Chinese students, etc. And that's also on the flipside why the majority of people have cracked it when it was discovered a Chinese company ordered their Aussie and Canadian based employees to basically stockpile all PPE and ship them back to China. We're all betting people obviously... I'm willing to put down $10k that my husband already had this virus back in late December/early Jan when he was told his chest infection was a new thing but don't be concerned. If I were histrionic I'd say I'd already had it too as I was sick like a mofo for weeks with some sort of shit chest thing. But the whole point of social distancing isn't for us, it's for our parents, our kids grandparents, kids who are ill, emergency responders, teachers, etc. Those who work at a supermarket or at Uber or Target or at a bank... you're all valued. Stay safe and how ironic is it that the most essential jobs (here in Australia at least) don't tend to require uni degrees. What a waste my 7 years was!!!Comment -
