First, the National Safety Council stats suggest the average annual rate of death
on the nation's highways is closer to 40,000 (not 45,000)
Second, those 40,000 highway deaths are counted over 365 days.
April 10, the US has almost 17,000 deaths in only 42 days -- and rising!!
Third, those highway deaths, while tragic, are not overwhelming hospitals
and health care stewards and first responders - causing massive HOURLY grief,
stress, national guard call up, hospital ships being mobilized, and rapid
construction of makeshift hospitals and testing centers.
Fourth, the REASON only a tiny fraction of the population is infected with this
contagion is because of the governors and mayors (NOT the Trump administration)
ordering "social distancing" and/or mandatory shelter at home rules.
It is logical that reduced human contact will keep contagions from spreading,
whereas increasing that human contact - without a vaccine - will logically cause
a vastly increased spread of this contagion. Thus, increased deaths. But almost
as bad is the vast increase of hospitalizations (overwhelming the hospitals and
health care system far beyond capacity) plus the volumes of people who
may not die, and may not need hospitalization, but will surely suffer painful illness
