This would be great if the chances of any adverse side effects were nearly non-existent. But it doesn't seem like this is the case. We are stilling trying to determine if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

The problem with testing drugs like this is... we have to compare what percentage of people get better on their own vs people taking the drug. We don't know for certain if the drug is helping them get better or if they just got better on their own... like many people do. For instance... let's say you gave 100 people hydroxychloriquine and 100 people you gave nothing. If both groups have a similar recovery rate... why should we assume that the drug is doing anything at all?

What I am saying is... it's likely we just don't know yet. AND, it appears that there seems to be more risk than what was originally spouted by Trump. It's not like taking a Tylenol for a headache... "maybe it'll work, maybe it won't". There appears to be much more risk with this. And THIS is why the "maybe it'll work, maybe it won't" attitude is not a good one.

Actually the side effects of hydroxychloroquine are well known. This is a drug that is prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus patients on a daily basis. They take it long term with very few side effects.


An interesting study would be to see how many people WITH Covid also have RA or lupus if they are on hydroxychloroquine.
