I believe that's to commemorate the day in 1654 when Anthony Johnson was the first person in the colonies to own a slave for life legally (John Casor) and not as punishment for a felony. John Casor was a black indentured servant and up until that point Africans (and Europeans who entered into servitude) were not slaves but indentured servants who became free after their contracts were fulfilled. After John Casor, the flood gates of lifetime slavery opened.

Oh yeah, Anthony Johnson was a free black man. Oops.

My golf league partner said in his weekly conference call, they were talking about Juneteenth and nobody knew what it was, so the leader of the call asked the lone black team member to tell everyone what it was. Lmao

When I ran a beer wholesaler it popped up.

Small celebrations in the predominantly black areas were present, but it wasn't a big deal.

Basically, as word spread of Lincoln's EP that became Juneteenth to the slaves...noone knew the exact day because there was very slow communications.

We considered using it as a marketing vehicle, but I ultimately passed because I felt doing Colt 45 sales or discounts on Budweiser taps in predominantly black bars was bastardizing the significant premise of the event and pandering to a community with enough issues.

Fact is, blacks haven't celebrated it in over 80 years and current black youth doesn't give a shit about history or morals or values or anything other then themselves and their next tattoo for a new selfie.
