OT - Obtaining a driver's license from another State

How difficult is it to get a drivers license from a different state?

The reading I've done it sounds like you present forms of ID and hand over any existing drivers licenses you have which become invalidated (I guess you can't have more than 1). Seems like all you'd have to do is rent an apartment in that state and apply for a license.

Is it any simpler than that or is it more difficult?

I have heard that this is possible and works as described above.

A friend held a license if his home state which he lost. He applied for and received a replacement. He then moved to another state handed over his new drivers license and received another one for the new state. Subsequently he found the original ,lost, driving license from his home state.

haven't moved in awhile, but it used to be instant, probably varies by state. No apartment needed.

Don't you have to show the DMV that you have a residence in that state before you can get a Driver's license?


What about getting an ID card? It must be easier than a driver's license.

You never used to. Some people move to Vegas and go from weekly shit hotel to hotel for months.

It's just a DL. Turn in old one, get new one, maybe different now.

I changed my ID a couple times in the last year or so (moved from Oklahoma to Vegas back to Oklahoma) and as long as you have a address I don't think renting an apartment is even a must... you just show enough to prove who you are, surrender your old id and I think they will pretty much put anything on the id.. I used a PO Box in Nevada... you probably could keep your old one if you tell them you lost the orginal from the other state... I wouldn't use it for driving, of course, after that point though...

Not in this case. Certain establishments won't take action from the state I live in. So I'd like to get a DL or ID card or something that would act as proof that I resided in a different state to get an account and meet their cashout requirements of showing ID.

Not a good idea for a DL then. If you live in Maryland, and get a Delaware DL then you aren't quite legal, as you are supposed to have a license from where you actually live, could cause problems with insurance too.

An ID might work, DMV probably doesn't check that too hard.

In Texas you can get everything for free as long as you sneak across the border. As far as being here legally, you have no rights.
