Have to watch this anytime it's on. The AWA had some good and bad years, but it still beats some action put on these days.

Lots of good wrestling clips on youtube, Great one. I spend a lot of time searching for old matches and interviews. Wrestling's past is alive and well thanks to youtube and wikipedia

Once in a while I'll turn AWA Wresting on, usually on at 11pm central on ESPN Classic. Brings back memories going to the St Paul Civic Center as a kid and watching Curt Henning, Verne Gagne, Jerry Blackwell, The Crusher, Mad Dog Vachon, The Baron, and other greats at the time.

Minnesota was definitely the AWA home base in those days, Best! I never saw a live AWA card but followed it every week from 1986 until they folded.

Sounds like a match that would have happened in the Memphis area. Idol was a legend around there.

Correct. I have seen he and Lawler, he and Tommy Rich. I grew up close to Memphis. Wrestling seemed so much more entertaining back then, even though those guys were not the caliber of athletes as a lot of these guys.

Yeah the Lawler-Idol years were some good times then. I grew up in the northeast so we didn't have much exposure to all the regional promotions down south. But I stayed caught up on a lot of it through magazines like Pro Wrestling Illustrated. I use to buy lots of videotapes with matches from all over also.

Back before all the steroids and drugs, it was all about who had the best gimmick and who got it done in the ring.

No one else like Andre for sure. Snuka had some classics - still worth watching all of that today on youtube.
