    Tipping at Sportsbook, what’s fair?
So here in the St Louis area, gambling is legal on the IL side of the river. Got a local out for FanDuel and DraftKings.

I’ve always wondered how much of a tip is common and reasonable for your ticket writer?

When I go back to cash I try to find the same person; but if it’s a new person (to you that day) do you tip them less than you would for the original winning ticket writer?

How much is typical? When I win several hundred I feel obligated to tip a $20. Had a 3k gainer yesterday and tipped $100 to the guy who wrote the tickets.

Need some help here, I used to work for tips and have door dashed in between jobs recently so definitely feel for people who rely on tips.

    Thoughts?

Eh... I don't think NOT tipping at a book is inappropriate.

They have a built in edge, it's not like the writer is offering you advice or 50/50 roll

The tip was you gave them business. Never heard of tipping a book.

I’ve never been to Vegas so don’t have a frame of reference. Just trying to figure out what’s common for others.

There is a guy who owns a dealership here in the St Louis area who is a Vegas regular (made a fortune off the Blues Stanley Cup run) who’s made more in the last month than you have in your entire life - says that only true broke dikk scum bags don’t tip at the books.

I guess he was talking about you.

All of the writers split the tips so when you tip, that single writer only gets a small fraction of the tip.

Totally agree. The fellas as Rampart give me a stack of drinks every single time.

Yeah. Seriously, you need to think about this. I'll start w/ a few ideas:

                                                      1) I think most servers who deal w/ me would consider me to be a generous tipper. OK, what goes into that?

For starters, I'm not a bdf. If $$ was much tighter, those tips would dry up.

Also, I tip on a scale tied to quality svc. If I see that someone goes out of their way for me, I'll be tipping > industry standard. Conversely, a slack job is going to get less.

                                                      2) Sports-betting is different. It's not a DISCRETIONARY transaction. You need to factor in the tip as an expense against your net +/-$.

It's a SMALL-margin game. The dollar-figures you list above are way too high. Are YOU that good that you hit 60% vs -110? Are YOU that good that churn a +10% ROI? Do you have a printing press in your basement?

Sports-betting tips should be SMALL, and I do mean small. Like $1 or $2 on $1000 action. Seasoned clerks know that beverage-coupon game. They offer you "drink-ticket"...and you slide em a buck or two.

                                                      3) FINALLY, some clerks will never be happy. They have no concept of money. They think you should be bleeding.

If I tip a ticket writer it's the change on the bet. It depends on a number of factors but usually ticket writers are the saltiest people on the earth and I don't feel the need to do anything for them.

Have you ever been sitting in a sportsbook watching a game? Listen to the ticket-writers talk about a player leaves.

It's hilarious to listen after a player just hit a big score. It's as if the writer was a 50/50 partner on the play. No, your risk is proportional to your contribution (which is zero).

Guy hits a nice score. "Can't even give me FIVE or TEN bucks."
