Will it keep rolling until a billion? Who knows.

Still a long way to go from the $1.5 billion jackpot won by single ticket holder in North Carolina few years ago.

Someone won either Mega or Powerball a few weeks ago for $15 million

Imagine winning a 1:300,000,000 lottery where others have won a billion dollars, and your "jackpot" is barely enough to retire on

Instant payout is always around 57% of the jackpot, and taxes would be 30-35%, That leaves them walking away with not even $6,000,000

          Id be salty af

Intuitively it seems hard to justify taxing people on winning a lottery. (or gambling at all)

And what happens to that 57% they take away for lump sum payouts? Does it go back in the prize pool?

24 times more likely to hit 2nd prize 5+0 then the jackpot 5+1

I had to research and learned something new

The lump sum is the actual amount of cash they have on hand for that particular lottery.

The annuity is simply them investing the lump sum for you and then giving it back to you over 30 years with interest

Seems a bit misleading to say the jackpot is $635,000,000, and I cant fathom why anyone would take the annuity unless they have zero sef-control

Oh ok, that is a bit deceptive but kind of less unfair sounding as well.

                  Thanks for finding out

I'd spend those millions like water btw. So the annuity would be smarter for me but you know I am taking the lump sum anyway lol

                    Same lol

I assume those of us that would benefit most from the annuity would be the first to take the lump sum

Also, whoever distributes the annuity winnings can actually go bankrupt and you'd never collect

I dont need any help losing the money thank you very much

Always by a ticket with the megaplier. You will never forgive yourself if you happen to hit the none jackpot and didn't megaplier. For a measly extra $1, you cost yourself several millions.

I agree if you play in other states besides California. Odds in California are pari-mutuel so megaplier isn't available

It's US$4.80 per ticket if bought legally in Australia. $7.20 with multiplier option.

                                What is it there? $2?

At the site I buy them no. Not first prize https://www.lotteryoffice.com.au/magazine/winners/

But I did organize a group of about 20 people on a forum years ago to buy into a syndicate thing for 2 or 3 dollars per week. And on only our 2nd or 3rd drawing we won a share of 2nd prize in the UK's biggest lottery. Think it was over 300k pounds total prize and we each received about US$3000 in the end.

I don’t believe the lottery is real the “winner” will be from an anonymous state and there will be no trace of him or her. They did away with the crisis actor winners and now just say the big winners are from states where you can keep your identity hidden.
