You don't live by the coast where hurricanes hit every year unless you can take the pain financially and like rebuilding your stuff. Boats included.

I live in Southern California by the coast and I thought big earth quakes were bad. Hurricanes are brutal in the South and in the tropics that come yearly. Earth quakes that are destructive come every 20-30 years here in the West.

I live in Florida. It's 100% normal, this was not the end of the world. Hurricanes are a part of life. If it made the state unlivable - I wouldn't live here.

most people with homes have insurance, Jibby. It's still annoying to have to fix and in some cases, rebuild

My mortgage company requires I carry home insurance.
I have Traveler's, great coverage, interior only for short money.
Exterior coverage like roof for instance is covered by my condo association.
