Nate, this is a great question. It's really a short list.
I'll decompose it a little further:
*Two contemporaries who were a little younger than Bird. Stockton and Chris Mullin. But they overlapped the Bird era.
*Two that come to mind that (again) overlapped the Bird era but were about 10 years younger than Bird. Jeff Hornacek and Mark Price.
*Once you get to the time after Bird retired, it's really slim pickings. You get to the likes of Brent Barry.
*You have the right answer. It's Steve Nash (even though he didn't care much for Defense).
*If you narrow it down purely to AMERICANS...I'll give you the name that comes to mind. And it's a guy who most fans don't care for. Kevin Love. He's had a solid career.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

I would have to say Stockton over Nash. He was robust! I remember him dominating Van Excel in those playoffs series vs the Lakers; wearing him out with p&r and shutting him down on the other end. I think if Nash played Van Excel it would be more like trading baskets.Comment -

Why is that? I think the American has the cards stacked against him compared to the euro player. Growing up there's a lot of stigma on the basketball court and even some reverse racism. you have to be really mentally tough to get through those obstacles. There's a lot of good American players but there hasn't been a superstar in a long timeComment
