Billionaire plans to build a speed train that goes to LA to Las Vegas

Yeah, flying always involves airport time. That can add up for sure, depending on the airport.

Can fly from Stockton to Vegas for super cheap with literally zero hassles. It's an easy, small airport. Trying to do the same thing from the Bay Area is not so convenient.

OK, I'll admit I'm not familiar with LA to Vegas. I just know that anytime I fly anywhere it's something of an ordeal. I'll take hopping on a train instead. Gotta likely be more comfortable too.

I agree with you, I'd rather drive from LA to Vegas than fly from LAX to Vegas.

Other than the local Stockton ariport, which is small, trying to fly out can be such a hassle.

Flying to Vegas is great. Head to the LAX, chill in the lounge for 45 minutes, get some food and drink, 45 min flight and an Uber to the hotel.

TSA Pre line is like zero with all these fools lining up for Clear to steal their biometrics. It's like 2 hours door to door. Flights are like 80 - 150 round trip.

If the bullet train was ever built and operational I wonder how much the train tickets from LA to Vegas would be?

I do know you can buy a bus ticket and take a Grey Hound today for just $25 from LA to Vegas. That's pretty cheap. Train prices would have to be competitive with that one would think.

Are you sure? 2 hrs to get to LA airport with traffic and 1 hr to go through security then 1 hr to get out of Las Vegas airport and 30 min to find a cab to take you to the strip.

Bullet train will take you straight to the strip from LA in 2 hrs.

The other thing that should be considered is driverless taxi's. By the time they have this built driverless taxi's will be near reality (see Zoox). It may start off as a small car but eventually it'll be driverless buses which can run on demand and be far more efficient and no driver = less cost and less cost = lower ticket prices.

I still think the best way to get to Vegas is drive from LA, wake up early in the morning to avoid traffic and go for it. Stop in Barstow to take a dump and get some grub. Blast the music and cruise along the way in the comfort of your own car. There in 5 hours.

Train would have to be a cool experience, not cheap, to do well i think.

Plane flights too cheap and too easy to compete on price.

Agree with Jake about LAX. Never had any trouble or wait there. Domestic or International.

And agree with Jibbby too, that the drive is kind of cool. Feels like a moonscape in places and just a weird approach to a modern city in middle of nowhere.

Have departed from Long Beach to Vegas plenty of times.
Show up within 30 minutes of take off, 45 minute flight and a quick ride to the hotel.

There's another mode of transportation that no one is talking about. VTOL's are definitely going to be a reality in So Cal and they require far less infrastructure. At present they may not have the range for a nonstop (needs 1 stop) LA to Vegas but I don't imagine that's too far off. Vertiports only take a year to build and are not nearly as complexed as an airport.

A passenger bus drone is the answer. It's more efficient than buses, trains and planes. It's a blend between them all. The majority are electric and like cars will eventually be pilotless. Removing humans as drivers, pilots, train engineers will really drop the price.
