How is the cashout option calculated at Fanduel ?
Have a couple of $200 future wagers at Fanduel for the Bills and Niners to win the superbowl at 9/1 and 10/1 respectively. Current cashout option on each show $200 for Bills and almost $360 on the Niners. I've often wondered if there is a general rule out there to determine if the cashout is fair but have never really followed up on it. I'm thinking of leaving both as is for now but curious if anyone knows what methods the books use to determine the cashout option and if the price presented is good or bad for the player itself.

I'd guess they would set a line on "no" SF to win the Super Bowl and then figure out the hedge amount that you could make and then add an extra cut. They have a new line up so they know what their "no" bet, same as what they consider the true line to be.

The Bills are still at the same line that you made the bet. That stayed the same but from my experience the cashout amount would normally be a little less. If I make a bet at places with cashout just after making the bet a cashout amount comes up with just under what my bet was made.

It's ok to cashout a future with nice odds even though they are grabbing a cut. It's never a good idea to cashout in-game. The only exception would be taking a big dog ML, like taking Stanford on the ML down 29 vs. Col.

Imagine having giants ml +850 at the end of the bills game and they are offering a great cashout but you refuse to because that's not a good idea to do in game.

Cashing out with large profit on huge dogs is absolutely great to do.

        I said this

Big ML dog is same as having a future. It's high odds. And it's still a bad idea because you'll get better odds hedging in-game. Cashout is one way betting similar to most futures that don't have a "no". There's a reason the books added cashout. It's a huge advantage for them.

I'm pretty sure your referring to American sports. I'm using soccer as well with 3 way lines.

But your cashout is a one way line. Only one option to bet.

Three different possible results not 2.

                3 way = 1x2
                2 way= 1 2
                1 way = cashout

If it's not a 2 or 3 way line, most of the time the book takes a big cut.

I'm not disagreeing in general on cashout because it's giving money away long term. There are times and places for it. I rarely cashout except on big dogs like you mentioned and perhaps on games where I get a big lead and I KNOW based on the line move I will lose. I don't want to hear about the line move thing because most people here can't read them.

                    Never cashout.

In the long run you win more if you don't cashout.

No one offers things if they aren't in their favor.

Most recent example is DK offering me a cashout of my wager amount on MNF when Dallas was leading by 3 near the end of the game. That's a joke.

I didn't take it and made $2K. I could have lost, but so what.

Imagine when they randomly don’t offer you cashouts but they offer cashouts for other players with the exact same bet. Welcome to Fanduel’s hidden practice

All good points guys and thanks for the input. Leaving things as is for now. Will re-evaluate at the midway point of the season but I'm obviously hoping for a Niners/Bills superbowl in the end.

But you'll win more by simply betting the other side live. A few considerations htta may lean to it:
                          1. liquidity issues
                          2. limit issues
                          3. wager delay

Like for example, at Fanduel I can bet 30k on an NFL side pre-game. As soon as the game starts, it's $100. Haha. And some people still think pre-game is better than live.

Damn. Never heard of that with FanDuel. I’ve worked with a handful of people who have gotten limited and it’s always like 10% limits across the board.

To your other points, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Depending on the book, sometimes cashout can be better (or way worse) than simply betting the other side. Off the top of my head, FanDuel slightly worse, draftkings waaay worse, pointsbet exactly the same, kambi usually slightly worse occasionally slightly better. Of course (as I’m sure you’re aware) there was the glory days when draftkings often offered +EV cashouts.

I'm at 1% now on most, but not all, markets. I was 10% for a very long time.

Sometimes pre-game the cashout will be free if the line has not moved. That can be a useful way of getting out of a bet when it moves against you.

The funniest is when people do multi-leg parlays and then want to cashout early at extreme cost. Just leave off the later legs if you don't want them.

I love that too. Why did they do an 8 leg parlay if they're going to bail after 7??? lol
