Hey, Tommy. Still more game to play. So, we shall see. Report I heard was that a TON of Vol fans are in the stands.
I do think back to the Cold factor. SEC teams literally NEVER play in the cold temps. They don't even know what Wind Chill is.
Iamaleava is not Hawaiian. But he's Polynesian and grew up in California. QBs of this ilk literally have never practiced in freezing temps. The ball feels different. I think of the Tua games where he just wants the game to be over with.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
Thx, Mac! I whiffed on a few picks. But I felt good about the ones you listed. Wish I would have bet more!
1) I thought SoDakSt was a little overrated this year. The three Dakotas were all pretty even this year. Great game to watch, Bison were hugely motivated as SoDakSt had sort of taken their crown.
2) Wish I would have gone bigger on OhioSt. Herbstreit talked about the team being embarrassed by the showing vs Michigan. The talent showed up, and the Vols melted in the cold.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
So far so good on these. At the moment, we hold good line-value:
1) I really think people are overlooking Boise. It's not just a one-man team.
...Boise knows that defenses have to key on Jeanty. Jeanty being a magnet sets up so many other plays.
...Per usual, this game is on Franklin. Can he handle it? I know that the Boise HC will make adjustments.
2) Ohio St flips to Fav after the blowout win vs Tenn.
...I don't at all think this is a one-sided matchup. It really shapes up as an even matchup.
...I think Oregon's team-speed is a little better. Gabriel will be sharp, and the ideal weather should fit him.
...Can OhioSt pick off Gabriel? I think they need to pick him off at least once. Gabriel is vulnerable IMHO on the long wide throws.
...Oregon was supposed to have a great Off Line. IMHO not as good as advertised. Buckeye front 7 needs to win that matchup.

...I was strongly considering Army. LATech was the add-on team, after Marshall pulled out. I don't regard LATech to be a strong opponent.
...LATech without three Defensive starters. And other guys in the portal.

...I view the MICH win over OhioSt as an outlier. Wolverine lineup will look like a shell on gameday.
...PS: this is a revenge game. MICH stopped Milroe on the goal-line run last year.

...ArizSt has killed me. I just see the Big12 as an outsider. Step-up in class.
...Horns have National Championship aspirations. They have horses, and I think they'll have a gameplan for Skattebo.

...Very strange to see Conference foes in a bowl game. I rate these teams as close to even.
...Playing the time-tested angle of going against the Heisman winner in the bowl game.

(Week) -2.73/14. Mostly the result of one very bad pick.
Summary:
*Jax St +2.5 was an awful pick. I thought they might close Fav. Late HC change moves the #. Missed 2-pt try, I lose by the hook. I took the only price that loses, all the late #s cover.
*Tulane closes w/ 3 pts of line value. Replacement QB Thompson was awful. Salvaged one unit on FLA.
*NoDakSt plays a great game, wins SU. You have to see the game-winner TD catch that Lance made.
*I won't say that South Dakota was the right side. They wind up two yards short of the cover. -1.00 on the SoDak future as well.
*OhioSt rolls. Vols crumble in the cold.

...I like the Bison as a Dog here. Three players to note:
a) QB Miller is a veteran. He's beaten SoDakSt 2x this year, so he'll be ready.
b) K Crosa has 85% FG accuracy over his career. Will be ready in Texas.
c) WR Lance. Trey's younger brother. Emerging talent, can make the game-changing play.

...Number dipped. I'm playing it. Army has been relentless in building up an early lead on opponents.
...LATech preparation can't be great. Ton of guys in the tfr-portal. Season was over, and they came back to play against the Option.
...Army FB Udoh out. But I can't see it being that big of a deal. If that means more touches for Daily & Short, that's a good thing.
...Army looked tired vs Navy (after playing a lot of games). Chance to get the sour taste out of their mouth.

*North Carol loses SU.
...Maybe a bad pick. This was based on Power Ratings.
...UNC fell into a category of "not wanting to be there." UConn looked much more interested.
*BYU wins going away.
...Thought the # looked too high, based on star-power.
...I think the Insurance angle was good. Sanders & Hunter probably don't play w/o the insurance in place.
...They were mentally gone. It's not the CFP. They already had one eye on the NFL.
*Ark St wins outright. Despite a monster game from Bowl Gr TE Fannin.
*Army gets there on both bets. They cover the 1h as well as the game.
...Have written about Army many times this year. Readers will know how much I like this team.
...Daily closes out a record-book season. Wonder what their 4th-down conversion stats were on the season.
...I hope that Army grants Daily a waiver to defer his service commitment. NFL scouts compare him to Taysum Hill (from the Saints). Hill is faster. But I'd argue that Daily is a more powerful runner. And I think that Daily is also a more accurate passer, when given the chance to throw.
...Fantastic blocking team. Joe Moore Award was well-deserved. I think that LT Finucane could play in the NFL, if given the opportunity.
...LATech was game. But I thought they had too many hurdles to be competitive in this game.
*IowaSt rallies to complete a great win over MiamiFL.
...Canes had defensive issues for much of the season. I loved seeing IASt bleed out the clock on the final drive.
...We caught a huge break when QB Ward opted to not play in the 2h. I wonder if he would have played if he had the same insurance deal that Sanders & Hunter had (to protect against a career-ending injury).
