(NFL) Time to implement the Draft Lottery
What about each Non-playoff team getting ping-pong balls?

1 to 18 in reverse order of Record. The tanking has become a theme:
*I really think the Giants are TRYING to lose.
*Raider talk has all been about how damaging the WIN vs Jax will be.

Can't expect fans to pay tickets to watch this crap. Have to de-incentive losing.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

In theory you are correct but people are too stupid and will still pay but then bitch about it later.

I would actually prefer a balanced Non-Playoff lottery. 18 ping-pong balls, all random draw.

Would Daniel Jones still be on the Giants if they were trying to win? Raider talk has all been about the fallout from the WIN.

Also, what about the Texans? Incentivize them to play for a seed. Are they just laying down?

Agree how else will they rig the draft and give the first overall pick to the franchise that they see fit

way too much money to leave this up to chance anymore

          How bad are these teams?

          1) Bottom rung is not competitive.

          2) Where are the good coaches?

          3) And where are the good QBs?

I think Archie Manning might be STARTING for the Cowboys this year. And I'm talking about the ORIGINAL Archie Manning. The 75-year old father of Peyton and Eli:

Draft lottery is the most corrupt event in sports.

Your theory on the Giants trying to lose was destroyed within days. Teams sit and/or cut players for a variety of reasons and in the NFL the principal one is contract structure. Run of the mill fans have no concept of how these contract are written and for the competent teams out there they are very powerful tools. They do not give a hoot about our fantasy teams or fans that bought tickets with rainbows and unicorns in their eyes back in April. They will do what serves them best and in some cases what serves the player best. If any team was tanking it is the Browns. Deciding to sit Winston for a glorified running back was pretty blatant, Winston might turn the ball over plenty but he keeps you in any game because he's fearless. DTR is a joke and shouldn't be on an NFL roster. Irregardless there is a logjam at the bottom this year with so many teams with dominant records. None of those bottom teams are in a position to turn things around overnight so whomever gets the 1st pick lacks the advantage seen in a year where there are truly elite players heading into the draft. The 1.1-1.8 range are all about the same quality of player as it stands. Just comes down to what each team needs most.

But yeah let's copy the NBA, they really have everything figured out...

Agree, darrell. My only question would be: How to Implement.

                      1) The bottom-feeders would logically merit more ping-pong balls.
                      2) Flip side is that you want teams hungry to win.

I actually think there's logic to just one ping-pong ball to each of the Non-playoff teams.

                        Lottery for the bottom 8
5 balls for every loss, eliminating the tie breaker non sense

That makes sense. Some of these late-season games are gross.

Who want to LOSE more this week: HOU or TENN?
...HOU will be mailing it in. I wonder if TENN is concerned about their draft pick.

Biggest laydown of the week will surely be KAN CITY.
...Chefs are smart. Their path is perfect. Rest this week, bye week, first game figures to be against an opponent that can't beat them, so it's like a one-game AFC playoff.
...I'm convinced that the Chefs want to eliminate the Bengals. CIN should have beaten the Chefs, and I think the Chefs will view the Bengals as most dangerous.

                            Smart,
Resting for the playoffs is fine,
Teams resting and getting backups some reps is fine

These bottom feeders, it needs to change, somehow
Even fantasy leagues have had it figured out for decades
In MLB, NBA, and NHL, fantasy teams go until the last full week.
But the NFL has no championships in its final regular season week because of all the tanking-its phuckin stupid

College football, finally, got their heads out of their asses and made a playoff so the tanking stops a little more

I saw the Chief thing coming from a mile away. They lost the game @Buff. So, they needed to be > one game ahead.

Veteran team. They've played a TON of games over the L6 seasons. Market says DEN -10, I don't think the Chefs will have a pulse this week.

Chefs will want to eliminate CIN. I know that DEN almost won in KAN CITY. But I don't think the Chefs would be threatened by a rookie QB.

If the Chefs had to win THREE playoff games to reach the Bowl, I think they'd be in trouble. As is, they have to love their position. Let the OTHER teams get banged up.

                                  Agreed
Cincinnati Bengals would be a tougher out then Denver

If Cincinnati gets in, they play Buffalo, they could beat Buffalo
We all know their is no way Denver beats Buffalo in the first round

Then it would be on to KC. Right?

In case of the Raiders, I think the last two wins were very damaging.

Talk of Vrabel being offered the job to replace Pierce:
*If the Raiders had a top-2 pick, I could see Vrabel being interested.
*If the Raiders have a lower pick, Vrabel likely turns it down.

Raider job gets much less enticing if the likely QB is O'Connell with a 3rd-round pick spent on Gabriel.

Interesting concept. however, even the bad teams play hard, evidenced by the giants destroying the colts. same colts favored by 7' who had something to play for, same giants that went from locked in on the number one pick, to fourth, and out of the ward-sanders derby. terrible win for a team in need of a quarterback, but they did not tank, put lots of effort on tape that game. maybe daboll thinks cousins is his 2025 answer

Also lots of talk about mayo getting fired Monday, then Vrabel-McDaniels to the Pats. Kraft loves vrabel and mayo has continued to provide more and more reasons to not get a second season in new england. pats got their quarterback, now they need to find him a head coach and coordinator to continue his development

No lottery. Playoff teams draft at end in reverse order (Super Bowl winner last, etc.), same as it is now. Non-playoff teams draft based on their finish, best non-playoff team goes first, worst picks last right before the playoff teams. Incentivizes winning instead of "rewarding" teams for sucking. Eliminates the pressure to spend a top 5 pick on a qb, most of which never pan out anyway. NFL is full of all pros, future hall of famers, etc., that were late first (or 2nd, 3rd...) round picks. Drafting 1st or 2nd guarantees nothing. NBA should do the same thing.

I normally like week 18 with the tanking and resting players. It's tough this year since teams that may tank are playing teams that may rest players for the playoffs.
